A quick imput (maybe a stupid question, pleae bare with me)

Ok, For the last 6 years I've been using all of my school equipment. Now that I'm out I'm buyin all of my own. I need to get a boom pole. Nothing fancy, just something that I can work with on small projects. I already have the mic. So heres my question.

I just purchased these two items and would like to know if its everything I need. I already have the xlr cable and mic.

I would just like to make sure that the two connect to eachother and I don't need any additional connections. I never really noticed all the little pieces when the equipment wasn't mine. Thanks.

Yeah, those should fit, since they will probably connect with a 3/8" thread.
BUT: you might find that the HANDLING noise of the boom operator will travel along the boom and into the mic. In other words, when the boom operator moves his hands, etc. you will hear it through the microphone.
If you have any decent microphone, and an operator who is holding the boom firmly, you will hear the heart beat also.

Recommended for such things is some sort of isolation between the boom and the mic.
It appears you are on a tight budget, so this one might not suit your budget, but it will give you an idea what to look for:

here's another one (better but more expensive):

Here's a nifty device that you can use, if you have a MIC STAND:

Hope it helps...

You can even hear the hearbeat?!? Man, I hope it's not too noticable for me. I'm starting a project soon and due to my lack of money, I'm mounting a Rode NTG-2 on top my homemade boom pole. I guess you get what you pay for...

I'm not even using a real shotgun mic. I'm using the unidirectional attachment to the dvx 100B. I'm hoping it will come out ok.
