A question I'm almost embarassed to ask

I need clarification on something.

I don't have my DVX yet, nor have I even purchased microphones.

My questions be...

What type of XLR cables should I get?
Is there a more reputable place to get them than just any old site?
Is a plain old XLR cables going to cut it, or do I need something else with it?
What are Black/Gold rings?
And, the inputs on the DVX, that's where I plan to plus in the XLR cables, is that right?

Wow... I am embarassed. I feel like I can answer these questions, but I am not sure so I really needed clarification. This was tough, very tough for me to ask.

Any professional music store will have the cables your looking for. Guitar Center, Daddy's Junky Music, Sam Ash etc... eBay is always a good choice.

There is some difference between XLR cables but not as much as companies like Monster would have you believe. You can really dig deep into the qualities of shielding, gage, etc. but for location sound just go with a Canare starqaud or better yet MattinSTL's cables.

I imagine Matt is getting a lot of orders from DVXusers and I know he started making them for fun and doesn't get any real profit from his endeavour so I worry he might get tired of all these referrals. Matt, you still having fun? :)

Don't worry zach, there are no stupid questions, just questions that have been covered a million times and could be answered much quicker with the search function (I don't believe this one falls into that category).

Cheers

MattinSTL cables! Highly recommend them.

Don't feel embarrassed. Back then, I felt like a baby in the field of production sound and post. Learn anything that you can possibly have a chance to. Even if you think it's ridiculous to learn something that is not related to sound, you'll be glad you did in the long run.
