A question about appropriate use of these forums

As far as I am aware, these fine forums are by far the best GH1 discussion resource on the net.

However, "DVXuser.com is meant to be a serious filmmaking resource," and as the GH1 gradually becomes more widely available, people will be likely to come here (via Google) asking new-user questions which have nothing to do with serious filmmaking. I have to say I'm a case in point - I'm not a serious filmmaker (but wow, I've learnt a great deal in the last few weeks and if time allows, I might just see whether I can put the advice here to good filmmaking use in due course).

So - I'm wondering whether the moderators here might wish to think about this before it becomes, possibly, a problem. Should non-filmmaker's participation be discouraged to avoid dilution of the specialty approach here? Or should there be a sub-forum labelled "New users' questions" where hopefully non-filmmakers' question might end up? Should there be a sticky pointing incoming non-filmmakers to some other site(s) where their questions would be more appropriate (but where?)?

Just a thought... and not intended of course to be offensive to anybody - we all have to start somewhere - maybe this site will become a source of inspiration to people to think about more serious uses for the GH1 rather than 'point and shoot' - but the dilution risk might need to be borne in mind.

We welcome users of all types (well, almost all types). Documentarians, news shooters, weddings & events, all are welcome. It just so happens that most who participate are filmmakers at heart (whether they're filmmakers on their day jobs or not).

I have no problem with that, and I've been here since 04. We all have to start somewhere, and the fact that someone asks a green question simply means they want more knowledge and sought it out via the best filmmaking forum on the web :-)

The only thing that seems to annoy old users is when posters forget about the magic "Search" function...
