a pulldown question

I have a 23.97 fps progressive mpeg2 file. I used this program pulldown.exe (2:3 pulldown) to make it compatible for dvd, but I wind up with 29.97fps interlaced mpeg2. Is there a way to go from the 23.97fps progressive mpeg2 to a progressive NTSC DVD mpeg2 steam? The main thing I want is progressive video on the DVD.

Re: a pulldown question

Before I can answer your question, I have to ask you what software you are using to encode your Mpeg2 file. It sounds like you are encoding it twice. What DVD authoring program are you using.

Re: a pulldown question

I'm using vegas 5 to create a huge uncompressed 23.97fps avi file, then I encode it 9 passes with Cinema Craft Encoder.

Re: a pulldown question

Don't know much about Cinema Craft Encoder, What is your DVD authoring software? Does Cinema Craft 24p Mpeg 2 support? If not you might have to bite the bullet and render it directly from vegas if you are after a 24p DVD.

Re: a pulldown question

I tried rendering from vegas to dvd directly using its mainconcept mpeg2 encoder. What is interesting is that I used the 24p project as stated in the sony whitepaper and the resulting vob files were tagged as progressive, but in fact the mpeg was still interlaced. (this could be seen by using bitrate viewer pro, or dvd2avi)

Re: a pulldown question

If you use the DVD architect 24p inserting 2:3 pulldown, I can assure you that the files are indeed 24p progressive. I havn't used DVD2avi, but if you just view the files on a progressive scan TV from a progressive scan DVD player, it is indeed progressive. As well as if you step frame by frame from the DVD player you will indeed only see 24 frames before one second passes. you will also notice that the 24p mpeg 2 file will be smaller than a normal 29.976 fps mpeg2 file. I really don't know what to tell you.
