A preemptive Merry Christmas to all.

Ah yes, the poor discriminated against and oh so oppressed white male Christian majority. You have it tough, what with all the imagined persecution and self created "war on Christmas". It's really too bad that you can't celebrate this religious holiday with all the public offices and most businesses closed in observance of it. Not to mention a month of lead up to it with constant repetition of songs and TV specials and all the decorations on every street post. God forbid that someone might also want to wish you a Happy New Year at the same time as it is so incredibly offensive to be wished "Happy Holidays". The nerve of some people!

All sarcasm aside, why is this such a big deal? I have friends who don't celebrate Christmas since they're Jewish or Hindu or Muslim or Jehova's Witness, or whatever. I still wish them Happy Holidays, I don't think they get insulted if they're wished a Merry Christmas, but why push it? They're not pushing their traditions or beliefs on me, and nobody's being told they can't observe their own holidays...except that a lot of other people who aren't Christians don't get paid days off on their holidays. I see no point in trying to stir up some perceived persecution that just doesn't exist outside the imaginations of a handful of people.
"But what about cities not being allowed to put up nativity scenes?" Well Virginia, that's because in the US at least we have something called the separation of Church and State. Though it is abused all the time, it is meant to prevent the state from getting into the religion business and forcing one on the people.
If you want to have a real issue with the celebration of Christmas, perhaps you should look more at the commercialization of the holiday.
Oh, and to GordT who apparently is celebrating Christmas, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. To everyone else, Enjoy the Holidays!

I'm working & rendering through the weekend.....it's great to be busy, but I need a shutdown of public offices & businesses so I can take a break!
 
preemptive: adjective 1. of or pertaining to preemption. 2. taken as a measure against something possible, anticipated, or feared; preventive; deterrent.
