GH2 "A Night in Portland" - GH2 test using PL glass

Graded http://vimeo.com/19902281

Had a lot of fun tonight! This was first time out with the GH2. Shot using all PL glass with the ciecio7 adaptor. Thanks to Ken Kupelian for helping shoot it!

We built up the camera into a pro configuration using 19mm rods, Arri FF2, Red Pro Prime 35mm, Optex Canon 14mm and Zeiss 80mm.

The h264 compression for vimeo added some noise I am not happy with, the original files are cleaner!

Edited on FCP. I used L&T to convert to ProRes422 HQ.

Interesting to see how much you can pull those shots up in the graded version without getting too noisy. Maybe it is my decoder , but I did not find the noise particularly objectionable for these kinds of shots. Film shot like this would have some graininess and texture to it too. Look at Aronofsky's Black Swan for instance. One of the things that has appealed to me about Panasonic digital cams is the noise can have a very nice texture if it is not excessive. I find it amusing sometimes when people obsessed with achieving a "film" look crush the life out of dark scenes trying to eliminate any trace of noise.

Thanks Razz! And I agree, grain can look fine as long as it's not too objectional. That said, I found Black Swan horribly distracting on the grain aspect.
