I was told by a person from a rental place that rents the DVXa
and they said that the camera is awkward having just a fixed lens, that's part of the sacrifice. What do they mean by this?
A fixed lens means that, unlike a camera such as the Canon XL1, you cannot remove the lens, for it is fixed. There is, however, lens adapters one can use if so inclined such as Wide Angles, Fisheyes, Tele-Converter...
yeah really, thats just retarded .. the xl1 is the only cam in the price range that has interchangeable lenses, so what are they talking about? every other cam has a fixed lense. and as john says you can get adaptors.. i think they just eat too many cabbages, or something.. definitely involves cabbages though..
Thats the same arguemnt xl1 users have about the dvx. "Yeah, the footage looks good, but do you have detachable lenses?" The adapters work fine, and if you need detachable lenses, panasonic makes a high end 24p camera, and you can pop your lenses off till the cows come home. ;D
Thanks guys, I totally had no clue what he was talking about.
Another question I have in mind, can I buy any filters for the DVXa or are there specific filters that I can only use for the camera. Anyone know where is a good place to buy them? I'm from Winnipeg so they won't really have places to buy them here.. I probably have to get them ordered via internet.
Here's the deal (as my son says to me; he's 4 years old, so you can imagine him saying "HERES THE DEAL")
IN order to use filters such as Grads, Polarizers, Black Frost, etc you must have a Mattebox. There are many kinds and a popular one for the DVX seems to be the Matteblox (See review on homepage).
The camera has built in ND filters of 1/8th and 1/64th. Some people prefer the in-camera ND's while others use ND filters.
Depending on what kind of Mattebox you use will determine exactly what kind (Size actually) filters you will require.
Just found out what the rental place has with the Camera,
it includes tripod, fastplate, 2 stage 4x4 matte box, filters, .8 wide angle converter, Sony 8" monitor, batteries and a glide cam.
Not sure what filters they have waiting for them to get back to me.
So about the matte.. is the 2 stage 4x4 matte box good? Can I use good filters with that.
