a new rig to do a special pan

Re: a new rig to do a special pan

since you already have excellent pro solutions suggested .. ill suggest some on the cheap

..this shot could be pretty easily achieved fluidly and repeatably with a monopod, or a tripod without legs extended. . if the subject is sitting up using the hips/butt as a fulcrum. the tripod/monopod coud be sitting on an equal plane and level fulcrum(like a bar balanced on two stands, with the tripod taped to the middle, and just be tilted upright over the fulcrum. or you could strap the camera to a wheel , and have the wheel turn to bring camera fromsideways to upright.

heres a snazzy diagram for you.

cheap.. somewhat silly, but works great.

Re: a new rig to do a special pan

Neil, that is the true spirit of the DVX. That would not only work, but be a great story to tell after it was done.

Re: a new rig to do a special pan

Holy **** Rich! What the hell is that thing? An autobot??? There ain't no way that thing is going to fit in the room I'm shooting in. What is it called? Neil, repost your diagram. For some reason it's X'd out on my page.

Re: a new rig to do a special pan

Rich, you said your an XSi/maya user. In your opinion which of these applications is the best?

Maya certainly seems to dominate the field at this time.

I happen to know a few people learning XSI and woder if it's the right app to pursue.

Re: a new rig to do a special pan

i prefer xsi. its alot like the xl2/dvx thing...depends on what you want out of it. xsi is easier to learn in my opinion, faster, character riggin tools are superior. mental ray is integrated much better into xsi...xsi is built around mental ray, rather then a bolt on. polymodeling is faster/more intuitive. nurbs modeling in maya is better. character animation is a toss up. but the xsi animation mixer is greatly superior. there are things about the way maya organizes materials that i like alot. but i like the creation of materials better in xsi. dynamics are better in maya. particles from what i can tell might be better in maya.

there is a giant list, these programs are so huge. anyway, they both have strength and weaknesses, but they are both great programs...wont go wrong either way.

Re: a new rig to do a special pan

Thanks, I want to learn xsi some day. One of the guys that I work with is one of the original Softimage founders... he knows the stuff really well. Maybe I'll set down and pick his brain someday!

Re: a new rig to do a special pan

A bit late, but the shoot can be easily done with a DvRigPro.

Tilt up and dutch with one step back, No problem.

Danny.

Re: a new rig to do a special pan

ok i of course don't have the solution but i feel the need to point out something, he said the two people are facing each other, so that would proclude the person being able to swing their legs off the side of the bed.

they would have to roll back so they were flat on their back and then sit up.

that makes it a boatload more complicated.

but i'm confused, if it were a true POV from the person laying facing them, then from the point they roll away from the person to be flat on their back on the way to sitting up, the other party's POV would be the persons who's movings ear?

Hey Rich, do you happen to know how much one of these Zebra rigs cost? (Just out of curiousity.)
