I know theres a majority of members on here who are abit 'ignorant' to this type of music.... so if for some reason it offends you, just hit mute!

My second ever project with the HMC151 and second ever music video, so please give constructive criticism! Im looking to improve!

Technically well executed!
Otherwise a generic video with generic effects for generic music.
No offense, but this style simply is overused.

Find your own style... As simple and hard as that.
That doesn´t mean that you can´t do sth that has been done before, but if you do, do it better than the one before.

For inspiration, Christopher Sims did this in 2006: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfdV6nYI-Rg
Also not my type of music, but at least everything fits the bill here...
And at that time quite innovative.

He apparently kicked all his hardcore videos from his page, but that´s where he started...

Well ill start by saying I dont think the music is particularly generic... theres no band out there doing exactly what this band is doing, whereas there are thousnads of bands doing the exact same thing. Its no more generic than one pop singer to another - but hey, thats another argument for another forum!

Cheers for the comments. I do agree its a pretty generic video, I am just trying to get the basics down as this was only my second go! Its good tho that you think I managed that, as it was my aim.

I will definitely strive to carve my own niche, but im hoping that will develop naturally over time.

Cheers dude

Wish there was a story here rather than just shots of the band. It gets a bit monotonous. Technically, it looks really good.

The lyrics beg for a storyline.

You are probably connected to the band, so you see minute nuances of what the band is doing. To the average viewer, this style IS overdone. In my experience, that singing style can be used as a crutch to cover up a lack of vocal ability (not saying this is the case here- when he's not grunt/singing, but just singing, he actually has a good voice). I would encourage the singer to "sing" more. If they are interested in commercial success, singers get the chicks, grunters just attract meatheads with no money. Chicks buy music, meatheads don't.

But music aside, nice job!

Lol thanks for the music industry heads up :) You are pretty way off the mark but but bands in this genre get used to such ill-informed criticism. You dont have to be connected to the band to appreciate what they are doing, just have an interest in the genre or at least an open mind would suffice!

Thanks for the comments on the video, thats all im here for afterall!

As far as this 'overdone' style (id agree) has any1 got any pointers as to some more original and unique works I could check out?

My research into music videos (of this genre, which is what I am very focused on doing) have been very similar.

*Again, trying to not come across as a douche here, but im really not interested in your opinions on the music....guys hear screaming and seem to turn into the most ignorant people on the planet...this genre sells many albums at higher rates that most of your 'pop' crap! You can have your opinions guys, just dont tell me about them!

If you had more negatives on my video id appreciate that! Im just starting out and dying to improve!

I will definitely try a storyline next time. Ive seen many guys attempt it and it look terrible, so I was trying to make sure Ive got the rest down to a certain degree before i went for it!

The quality sucks, but this Napalm Death video is an idea:

I enjoyed the video, but aside from the storyline, whats the unique part? I definitely need to look more into doing narratives as this is a great way of capturing audience attention.

This genre of music seems to call for (what has become) a pretty generic feel, imo. The challenge is of course delivering what a band of this genre requires whilst achieving uniqueness on a creative front.

No simple task!

Just wanted to chime in. I liked the visual style to it! Just the whole vertical lens flare annoyed me after a while, maybe next time tone it down a bit and see what sort of response you get. It sort of detracted from the images rather than enhanced it. If it was reduced... well I dunno.

And for some reason, the lightbulb reminded me of a Paramore music video! (don't shoot me please ><)

I liked some of the slowdown that you did in the middle of the piece starting around 1:29. But it might be just me, but it didn't feel "organic" in the video. It was cool but didn't really feel right.

Loved the major slowdown headbang stuff though at around 2:49. The first one kicked @$$ with the music. You could have left out some of the camera shake though, or reduced it a little. (I smell after effects, good man)

I think you got that music video pacing and feel down pretty well though. My suggestions for the future (I am no professional so take it with a grain of salt), don't go too stylized. You imitated a look and then kinda went melodramatic with it. Tone it back a little. Then give everything a reason for being. Like the space you're working with. Why is he singing into the light, instead of it just being an asthetic. Make it feel/conform to the music. In this case I think you did fine, just something needed to lessened or increased. You don't "need" a narrative, it makes for nicer visuals, but I think if you have a reason for being you don't need a narrative. And, though you did vary the shots, get more angles. Closeups of strings. Grungy textures. Make me feel dirty when I see them next time.

And my goodness, your lead singer has 1 arm. Freaking cool.

Oh, and nothing wrong with screaming. Some of the most talented musicians belong to bands that scream. You should check out "Between the Buried and Me". Anyhoo, that's my change. Whether it's worth 2 cents American or Canadian it's your call. Good job regardless, will look out for more vids.

Personally I can't stand this type of music but I made myself watch it :)

Good execution but as has been stated earlier a little generic - what sets these guys apart from the other bands of this "Genere?" some random candid shots of them being naturaul or doing something stupid like slamming themselves into a wall in a shopping cart < not really necessary but you get my meaning. Or even them jumping in a tide?

Good example, now that again can't stand the music but this made sense :)
