What is the difference in a typical vtr and one that is sold as 'medical grade'?

I need to know what to look for since all I'd like is to edit some video from my DVX100.

tnx in advance for any help you can give me..

JOE

PS // FYI, I did try to look up the specs online but found absolutely nothing so thought I'd ask here...thnx

It can be surgically implanted into someone? You know, in place of a brain, you just play stuff off a tape.

ive seen this designation before but never bothered to investigate, since my tape needs were never more than rudimentary at best...
id bet probably nothing. just a higher price tag or maybe made in japan instead of china.

Is this on eBay???? I'm bidding!!! ;-)

If there is such a thing as a "medical grade VTR", I'm guessing it was designed to be wiped down with bleach without falling apart.

It may have a good bit to do with proper shielding to make sure that there are no issues where the operation of the device causes any fire hazard or electrical interference with any other instruments. Likely the unit has been inspected to meet biomedical engineering standards. There are requirements that all electrical/electronic devices are evaluated by qualified biomedical technicians to ensure the device meets the standards.

I concur with that. I have seen them several times, in radiology departments. I have had a couple of echo-caridograms and the info from the test was stored on S-VHS using a high grade VTR integrated into the ultrasound gizmo. I shot a low budget horror film in an abandoned hospital once and I found about 300 high quality S-VHS tapes in boxes. They had only been used once. The guy that managed the place let me take them and I built one heck of a movie tape library with them.

Thanks ,, I guess the obvious question is 'should I buy it?'

and what should I be looking for with respect to linking it up?

I'm going from DVX100 to older G5 QUAD and considering an HDMI cheap TV for simple color correction.

how would you approach this set up ??

I've never worked with a deck before so I really value all of you for the input
Thnx in advance...

Joe,
Are you sure the deck on Ebay is a DV deck? I've seen many SVHS medical grade machines, but never a DV model with firewire I/O.
Ken

Yeah Ken ,, the guy has it listed side by side with another ,, both the same ,, except the model number has an MG (medical grade) designation.

You want it ? I'm still in the 'window shopping' stages, you won't hurt my feelings if you buy it,,, heck that's what it's there for
Let me know I'll find it and send the link to you...
