"A Matter of Life" on YouTube

Well you made your points well with respect to what a sequel is; but as for the moral dilemma that the girl faces, that I don't agree with the organization's point of view. It seems they're ok with premarital sex, and in fact it's as if they're promoting the concept "if it feels good, it can't be wrong" -- just protect yourself with a condom. To be honest, I can't figure out what their agenda is -- judging from the shots showing them applauding and approving of the message the girl delivers at the end of the movie.

And since you're writing these projects as infomercials, well, I can't say anything about what would be the ideal premise for the sequel to A Matter of Life. It's whatever the organization wishes to promote.

Nevertheless, I admire the Christian message you inject into their infomercial and make these movies much more appealing. Again, I'm only expressing my own personal opinions into the discussion about what makes a better movie.

I'm not sure how you get to that conclusion. As I said before, even sex with a condom transmits HPV. The new story involves the girl -- now all grown up -- dealing with the fact that her husband, whom she loves dearly, has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer caused by the HPV virus. She discovers that she caught the virus from the jerk who made her pregnant 10 years earlier. If she'd remained celibate, as her husband did, then none of that -- the pregnancy or her husband's cancer -- would have happened.

The organization promotes celibacy before marriage, monogamy during marriage.

The purpose of both AMOL and Shadow of Death is to show the devastating, even life-threatening, consequences of a promiscuous lifestyle. Even though Meredith only had one relationship other than with her husband, that choice she made to engage in that relationship has had disastrous consequences, not only for her but for someone she loves. That's high drama! :)

Oh, I'm relieved. LOL For a while there I thought this was a new age religious organization pushing for safe sex and adoption as a solution.

Ok, then, I can talk a little more sensibly -- as a filmmaker... but I can't ask you anything more about what you're writing, because you can't.

Well, keep us updated on this project.

See, the thing is that you're a much better writer to get stuck with infomercials though. But I know we all gotta eat!:-)

Well thanks for the compliment. Let me be clear, though -- I don't charge the CPC anything to do their stuff. I donate my time and services.

We do all gotta eat, but there's more to life than eating. :)

Thanks filmman!

Something odd..... Part 1 of "A Matter of Life" on YouTube has gotten 69 views, but parts 2 and 3 have only gotten 15 and 17 views, respectively. Guess that's not good, eh?

Ok, so you make your living with other movies, etc.

I only make those movies that I want to make now. I don't look for investors. I make movies by myself -- one man crew. This way I keep my budget to within my means. I also started out shooting movies by myself when I was a student and it's ironic after working all over the world with big crews, I decided to come back to this way of working -- like an artist. Everybody knows artists don't eat -- it's the human that eats; the artist is parahuman (is there such a word? LOL)

I don't know if you've checked out my movie THE RED QUEEN. It's only $1.99 to watch it as VOD on Amazon.com -- seven day window:-) but I recommend you watch it at one time. It's only 83 minutes long.

Actually, I make my living with a day job -- well, a night job. Computer operator. So far I've made squat on feature films, and little on much else film/video related. Hoping to change that though.

My true strength is scriptwriting. I've made a few bucks doing that.

The only problem with making movies within my means is -- I have no means. I made 'Tangled Web' for $1000, and had to get investors for that. I do like the idea of a one-man production on its surface, but I find I'm not great at all the different jobs -- directing, camera, sound, lighting, editing, etc.

If I could focus only on what I'm best at, I would write and produce. I need to find enough money to hire the people who are good at execution -- a director, DP, sound person, gaffer, etc. For me, putting together a great team is really the only way I'll ever end up with a great movie. I can write it and I can find the right actors, locations, props, wardrobe, vehicles, etc. I need the skilled people to do the rest.

I'd love to watch The Red Queen, and will do so as soon as I can. What was involved with getting it on VOD on Amazon? And do you make any significant money that way?

If I could do that I would be making 12 features a year.

www.CreateSpace.com is the only online movie distribution source that worked for me. It costs nothing to send them a movie for DVD production. When you log onto their website and sign up. They will give you the templates to create the video sleeve, the artwork, and the form to enter in all the info about the movie. They even get you an ISBN in your name.

Then you send them your authored DVD. They take the files and send you back the DVD. They then make your movie available on CreateSpace as well as Amazon. You can put a link on your page and sell it from your website also. You don't have to do anything. They produce the DVDs and sell them and collect the money. They make deposits to your bank account or send you a monthly check as you wish.

You can indicate you want the movie to appear on Amazon.com as well and specify you want VOD as well. It takes a few weeks and everything is up and running.

It's the only venue that has paid me any money from DVD online. I've tried a few. The money isn't great, but it's better than nothing. If you email me from http://www.felliniesque.com or http://www.releasing.net I will give you more details.

Ironically it's my books that are selling best. www.CreateSpace.com does the same for you with books and CDs. My book FILMMAKING A TO Z is selling better than all my DVDs. Maybe it will change once I find a way to market my DVDs. So far it's been slow. I'm using Twitter and Facebook.

Let me know what you think of my avant garde movie THE RED QUEEN. It's a rock-n-roll musical -- very creative so you have to be patient :-) watch it through before you form an opinion. You might have to sleep on it.LOL

Your 'means' must be far better than mine. Lucky you!

What about promotion? With your film on Amazon and CreateSpace, is the burden of promoting it still on you? That seems to be the hardest part of the whole thing -- getting the word out.

Unfortunately yes :-) But, having the movie on Amazon means also that I can get an imdb page for the title. So it's a bit better exposure than just having it on my website.

So if you do a search for me on imdb, you will find three of my titles:
THE RED QUEEN, BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND, & THE CHASE by Vic Alexander. So that's a plus. I'm still working on straightening out the listings on imdb, however; the interface is difficult. It takes weeks to fix a badly listed title.

BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND is still a bit messed up, but it's up anyway. Hopefully in a few days my corrections will take hold.

As for marketing, like I said, I'm promoting the movie on Facebook, Myspace & Twitter. I can't assess how much progress I'm making yet. I'm on them every day with a few comments. Maybe my grandchildren will get the windfall.LOL

But.....I'm listed on IMDB too. :)

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1400903/

I would imagine the constant updating on Facebook, Myspace and Twitter has done more to promote your movie than Amazon, Createspace and IMDB. That's always been my concern -- that people would still only find my listing there if they were actively looking for it. And that requires me somehow letting them know it was there. If I have to guide them to the movie anyway, I figure to save money by just guiding them to my own website and selling it from there.

I do feel that an IMDB listing gives a movie a degree more legitimacy with the average person. To some extent that's probably true of Amazon too. At least IMDB is free.

I guess I just have to figure out how to market using FB, Myspace and Twitter, and do it effectively. Takes time, I suppose. OH.....and marketing HERE too, of course. That will be my first step.

It takes a lot of banging on the keyboard to sell online. I was hoping this was going to be easy.LOL
