A little OT, but - When will we see Global Shutter on CMOS?

Didn't know where else to post this, so move if needed...

I know Global Shutters on CMOS will cost more, reduce available pixels on the chip, and consumer more power/produce more heat... BUT... when is it likely we'll starting seeing GLOBAL SHUTTER on CMOS chips? And why?

I feel like if they could get 3x CMOS chips with 1920x1080 resolution on global shutter system... this would an excellent solution. It would basically be CCDs without Smear, right? And... cheaper (eventually)?

Hey, I feel like if Intel could get 32-core processors at 50GHz, that'd be an excellent solution too. But they can't. Not yet. :)

I know it can't be perfect - but to clarify, so are you saying CMOS sensors with global shutters are about as far off as 32-core processors @ 50GHz?

I'm curious how far away from global shutters in CMOS sensors implemented well we are (2 years? 5 years? 20 years?), and why?

No, I'm saying that there are limits to what the technology can do at any particular point in time. CMOS sensors with global shutters exist today. But not at a pricepoint and not with the sensitivity that would make them attractive to camcorder manufacturers.

Heck, CMOS itself is nothing new, they were developed side-by-side with CCD sensors over the last 30 years, but they just didn't make sense as a total package; CCD was just better. It's only recently that they've gotten the CMOS to where it makes for a viable alternative to CCD. So how long will it be before they make a global shutter version that's a viable alternative? Who knows?

Intel actually designed a 1THz processor. Just uhh gets a little hot and has serious problems, obviously. Its like 5-10 years away from being manufactured.
