Just got back from seeing a screening of short films at the Austin Film Festival, where Jack had both 'A Little Mouth to Feed' and 'Unawakening' screening -
as expected, they both went over really well - the audience seemed completely into both films, and personally I think they were both the high points of the entire shorts block.

Great job, Jack!
Congrats!

Just wanted to let you all know the screenings of A Little Mouth to Feed and Unawakening went really well at Botega! They were, by far the best screened! I know I am biased but in this case it is also true!

and Jack...

odd question....any chance I can get a poster from ALMTF. I never actually got one and it would be nice to hold on to.

Thanks for the update Michele. I was wondering how it went.

Michele I do have a poster for you but to be 100% honest I am horrible at physically mailing things. Horrible. It's just a problem I have. We'll have to involve Megan somehow to crack the whip. I'll send you her email.

The Austin Film Fest screenings went well. (Thanks for the post Luis) The first night screening which Luis mentioned was at a smaller venue and was sold out with many people sitting on the floor in front of the screen. The shorts block was strong overall and by the second screening - at the Alamo Drafthouse, a very cool but large multiplex - the word was out on the shorts block as being "the cool one to go to" and the screening was full.

It was great to see the films projected from HD files on a 2K projector at the Alamo. They looked great as did the other films.

There were 2 HVX + letus shorts (one of which was LMTF), one HPX 500 (Unawakening), 1 EX1, 1 16mm, 1 Red. Good news or bad news depending on how you look at it. They were all comparible and probably indistinguishable to most. It was definitely not - oh that looks like low budget video and that looks like film and that looks better than film, etc. All films provided HD files tothe festival which they had processed and then transferred to hard drive by the same post house.

Audience response -
Friday screening audience was most vocal in Unawakening. There were even some screams. Which surprise me because that part of it is so mechanical as a filmmaker you don't know if it works or not. I always just think of it as working on a tone / believabilty level, not so much a boo level. But nice to know for some people there were some boo moments in it.

Sunday screening the audience was most vocal in A Little Mouth to Feed. There were cheers and claps during the film when people would get killed, etc. During the question and answer we were told to say who we were and what film we did. At first I couldn't get out that I did Unawakening as well, because after I mentioned LMTF someone yelled "that kicked ass" and everyone yelled and clapped again. Definitely the best screening since the first screening opening night at Slamdance.

OK - packing up the laptop et al to hit the road for a couple of weeks.

Cold Calls
Dallas Video Fest 11/5-8 (will be cool to screen at the Angelika in Dallas)
Lone Star International Fest in Fort Worth 11/11-11/15

Cold Calls, A Little Mouth to Feed, Rekindled, Unawakening
Texas Bloodbath near Waco, TX 11/13-115

Will post some post cards for the fests, when I get to my folks house in Dallas. Though they have satellite internet, which can really suck.

Iv'e been meaning to drop by this thread to tell you I ran into Ben Bailey at Just For Laughs in Montreal. I mentioned I was on the set the day he was there. He had nothing but the highest praise for the experience and finished film. he said he actually had a few people recognize him from taking flights on Delta and seeing it there. He also showed it to the crew of cash cab and one of the crew had the same last name as Blanchard's character so this guy was called by the crew "The widow xxxx" (forget the name) for several weeks.

Ah very cool to know James.
Ben actually just called me yesterday. He sent me a short film a couple of weeks ago that he and Judah Friedlander put together and star in and that he wants me to color grade / finish up the post on. Yeah in the phone call yesterday he told me that a few people got in his cab that told him they'd just seen him in Cold Calls on Delta Airlines on the way to New York.

hey Jack...next time you talk to Ben...ask him if he has heard of paltalk! i swear to goodness i chatted with him there years back because every time i watch Cold Calls the voice is exactly the same. or ask him if the old broad from your other short can email and ask him a question...

OK. Just back from Dallas Video Fest, Lone Star International, and Texas Bloodbath. I'm having some kind of fluid issue with my ear and ready to be home for a while. (though i had a great time at Texas Bloodbath at the end of the tour due to the great staff despite feeling like crap.)

Anyway, REKINDLED just won best horror short at Texas Bloodbath. It screened alongside A LITTLE MOUTH TO FEED, COLD CALLS, and UNAWAKENING and beat them all. Glad to see the old maid of that pack getting some attention (it will be ineligible for lots of festivals beginning in 2010).

As part of winning, REKINDLED will receive distribution via Crypt Club productions

Serious props to Mark Johnson, co-producer/co-DP and VFX ninja of REKINDLED.

Very cool Jack! Nice to have all your films getting attention. You deserve it!

So Jack...whats up on your end? Any of the films in more festivals?

Unawakening got screened last week at Pravda in downtown. They were doing a few screenings and a bunch of film folk were there and I saw Shaun. I found out it was screening last minute and had no time to mention it to many folks but it was well received! Thought you would like hearing that...
