A little lazy afternoon filmmaking...

This short film is a project I helped my screenwriting partner's little sister shoot for her highschool film class. We shot the whole thing in two hours on DV (using the hvx though). I found out about an hour before shooting that one of the two main guys wasn't going to show up, so I ended up having to act in it myself! Since I didn't have any of the script memorized, AND I was trying to figure out how we were goign to shoot the whole thing before the sun went down, we decided to take talking points from the script and essentially improvise the entire thing.

It was a really fun afternoon, back in the mindset of highschool film making, where you weren't worried about perfect lighting, blown images, or even boom mics in the frame... it was about having a good time, and teaching these kids a little bit about film making.

So, that said, it's not the prettiest piece out there, but people really seem to love it, and I think it's pretty hilarious myself (watch through to the end, it goes in a completely different direction than you'll be ready for). I hope you enjoy it! (don't forget to leave comments and ratings on youtube, Id love to get this in front of more people).

Excellent movie!
I really loved it
Loved it
In the end I really needed some close ups of how the nerds were torturing the kids
And some reaction of themselves at what they did to finish it off
But great work

I checked the link again, and youtube has a small disclaimer saying something about site maintinance right now, so that may explain the stuttering (or maybe you should just pause it and let it buffer all the way through).

As for it being shot on the HVX, since I used the tape deck, it's essentially the same picture as the dvx (i am aware that there are differences between the two cameras, IE native 16:9 ccd's, etc), but since I'm not displaying high def footage, I felt it wasn't such a crime to post in the dvx area as well. My aim is to get as many people to view it as possible, and I bet on the fact the many who don't use/own the HVX are only checking the DVX forum for showing our work... at least it wasn't shot on my XL2!

my computer was doing some heavy stuff thats why it lagged I saw it later it was awsome really. I edited my comment check it out.
The only thing missing was some close ups of tortured kids when the nerds revenge, I really wanted to see them feed dirt to the bad kids.
And maybe a small reaction shot of the nerds after they stop shouting and see what they did.

I liked it. You can tell they're improvising dialogue, but it's okay because I like the sound of improvisation. Plus the improv and acting from the 24 year olds was pretty good. The editing and the performances really flowed.

Unfortunately, as this was a high school film project, nothing was planned, and it was a race against the sun. I would have loved to have gotten more shots, closeups, etc... we were lucky to get what we did! There is almost no continuity in the fight scene whatsoever, but oh well, my favorite saying on set became "screw it, high school film, we'll get away with it!" Hahaha!

Thanks for the support guys, I'm working on a short film right now that'll be going into production in the next month... can't wait to get it up on here!
