A little help with a sound package.

Re: A little help with a sound package.

Taubkin,

Who are your questions directed to?

Some here seem to prefer the ME66... some here seem to prefer the ME67.

I own a ME66 already but plan to add a ME64. If I already owned the ME64 (only) then I would probably add a ME67, instead.

Re: A little help with a sound package.

Gordo--I couldn't agree more about your experience with the ME66. In an uncontrolled situation where you need to isolate dialogue from a lot of ambient noise, a shotgun like the ME66 is a great choice. In your application, off-axis rejection of noise is more important than a bit of extra reverb.

Taubkin--You may have a point, but it depends on your application. The ME67 is pretty long--not ideal for indoor use in tight spaces. If you're using it outside or in large interiors it might be perfect. Again, it all depends on you needs and personal preferences.

Are two mics enough? Not for me. :-) I have the ME64, ME66, a wireless omni lav, and a wired omni lav and I could still use more. Another wireless lav would be great and a big ribbon mic for voiceovers and something warmer for dialogue--you get the idea.

Re: A little help with a sound package.

So the me66 would be a good choice for a versatile mic, even not being as good as the 67 in outdoors, and still delivering some reverb indoors. Ok, I get that.

And yes, Barry, two mics doesn't come near enough when you want to have the most apropriate equipment for every shot. But I must say from reading all this that a k6 mic kit with a 64 and a 67 will kick the bottocks of having the 66 for an all in one. (I still want to add that just having a 66 is a great package, and you can get great sound with it, I know that.)
