A little help for a dumb kid

Hey all,

I know this has probably been covered a thousand times but.....

Just bought a DVX100B - got an ATR-55 along with it as a promo; will this be good enough to start out with or should I get a "classier" mic if I wanna do anything substantial.

Looking into getting a G5 but I just spent all my money on the camera so what is the bare minimum I can get without sacrificing the quality of my edit. I'm thinking the Dual 2GHz Power PC G5...I don't think I need the quad right?

Last question: The kid at the mac store gave me a pretty hard sale on the Final Cut Studio package which sounded great but also has a $1,300 price tag. I found out I can get the same package online but for $600 with a student discount. The catch: I can't use it for commercial purposes....

At the risk of sounding...unethical...(and without making any excuses for myself except that I'm poor and can't afford the full version) How would anyone know which version I used? It's almost impossible to find out right?

Anyway, thanks for your help....

Before asking if the ATR-55 is good enough, why not try it out?

You can get by with a G4 with 1Ghz, buy better if you have the money. Speed is great but comes at a cost. I use both my Powerbook G4 and my G5 imac.

As for the FCP student version, you will need to register it. If you use student FCP to produce a commercial film then you are opening the gates to be sued. You pay for the license, that's what the extra money is for. But why are you worried about that? Do you plan on putting out a commercial film in the next year? I'm not sure if FCP does this but I bought Lightwave 8 as a student and it's upgradabe to full license in 6 months.

As far as processing goes, our movie has been edited on my G4 PowerBook. It takes a little longer sometimes to render some things and to crunch stuff out to Compressor but then I just pull up DVXUser and entertain myself here until FCP/Compressor finishes. It really hasn't been that bad.
