SHORT: A Hunger for Justice - A Film Noir about a Sandwich

This was a project made for fun by my company.

We tried to include all of the traditional elements, characters and plot structure of a true Noir (with a more Neo-Noir aesthetic), but decided to centralize the plot around a missing sandwich (because fun).

The part that we're most proud of is that the entire film was shot in 1 day (12 hours) with a 2 camera setup. Total shot count was 82 shots. We're proud of the quality we managed to maintain despite the extremely tight schedule.

For those interested it was shot on RED Dragon w/ Canon Cine Zooms.

Curious to know what you guys think, did we do the Noir genre justice? :)

I think you guys did a fantastic job here. While it's impressive that you pulled the whole shoot off in one day, I'm more impressed with the excellence of your art department. Great location, costumes, etc. You did the genre justice by way of parody, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only dissent would be that I would have liked to see a more subdued color palette overall. Other than that, it was awesome!

You had a couple great faces in there and I liked most of the camera moves. Couple things that stood out to me in a negative way:

-The rope cut at the opening is kind of jarring, not seamless. The shift in angle makes it feel like a jump cut.
-Given the retro theme and styling, the oversaturation seems an odd choice.
-The lead putting on a Clint Eastwood affect for the VO is cheesy enough, but then in the non-VO parts he speaks more like his young self. Be consistent at least.
-For me the violence felt gratuitous. The wacky premise didn't justify it, nor was it done in a way that added humor. Contrast to "Drive," which is more graphically violent but stays shocking and funny.

You guys are clearly skilled filmmakers. Good stuff ahead for you I'm sure.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked it! Good feedback on the color and we were very proud of our art dept and the stellar job they did. Thanks for taking the time!

All of these are great feedback and I would agree for the most part. Thanks for taking the time to go into detail!
