A few questions.

I just recently joined this forum because I am thinking about getting an HVX-200. I've read quite extensively on the HVX on a broad perspective. But i've never really got down on the real juicy information that is actually quite vital to my workflow.

Now, a fellow student I know has recently gotten a JVC HD camera that runs on the HDV format. Yes, i know it's a different format than the DVCPRO format that Panasonic runs on. However, he's had quite a hard time in trying to digitize his footage into Final Cut Pro 5.1. Should I be aware of any software issues with FCP that may affect my workflow with the HVX and my computer? And in the course of events, what exactly should I be looking for to solve any problems that relate to software and hardware issues?

I'm sorry but I'm extremely new at this, but I want to get serious about my film work.

Thanks!

Well first of all if you shoot P2 on the HVX, then there will be no "digitizing " involved...just copying/importing files. Just ensure that you practice redundancy. Your partner has a source tape he can always go back to...not so with the P2

No, you have nothing major to worry about. FCP works perfectly with the HVX as long as you are using the latest version of FCP. You just shoot, import directly to FCP, and get on with editing. It is a good idea to back up the P2 files to another place (an external drive, a DVDR ).

The JVC HD100 is less well supported by FCP for HDV. It doesn't play well with 720/25p footage. Not sure about the USA formats.
