A few accessories for my new EX1

I am a new EX1 owner as well, having had my camera for about a week. (A reason to be thankful on this Thanksgiving day.) So let's bring on the noob questions!

With regard to tripod, I'm using a Miller DS10. It's been my tripod for a couple of years now, but I recently saw that Philip Bloom recommends the DS10 or DS20 with the EX1. (Though I'm sure the Soom system is nice also.)

With regard to the filter, I can only assume people are referring to a basic UV filter which would serve to protect the lens glass from scratches.

I have some questions about editing, specifically about mixing XDCAM and HDV in the same timeline. But perhaps that's better discussed in a separate thread.

Best of luck with your camera. You made a good choice.

Hey Gary
Congrats - (you too, Sean!)
So - depending on what kind of shooting you intend to do:

a) cards. SxS for overcranking, KxS for the rest
b) if you're doing extensive location work away from your computer, then a laptop
c) UVa/clear glass filter to protest the front element
d) some kind of IR filter if you're following that thread
e) spare batteries and mebbe one of those fancy Dolgin 4x chargers if you have the money
f) hard drives and DL/DVDs, lots of those
g) camera support. Yes, the SOOM is excellent. Me, I'm using an old but perfectly reconditioned OConnor 30D, which is also excellent, in its own way.
h) 35mm DOF adaptor with stills or cine lenses, if you feel like one
i) mechanical FF unit for the 35mm lenses or the built in lens, whichever you prefer
j) if you're using just the built in lens then probably a remote handle/zoom controller
k) if you're using just the built in lens then probably a wide adaptor
l) cases - soft, hard, check-in, carry-on

I think that's about it - for now.
Notice I didn't touch audio yet...

I recently bought the Glidecam 4000 Pro for my EX1 and I have had zippo experience with these things and I'm having a lot of trouble getting it properly balanced. It might just be me though. I'm not using a vest/arm, just my own arm (and the wrist support). It's heavy, no doubt, but none of the takes I plan on using it for will last more than 30 seconds at a time so I'm okay with the weight. I just can't get it balanced without it swaying a bit as soon as I start moving. I've heard it takes a long time so I'm not giving up hope.

Sounds like you need to add more balancing weight Buck. But should confess, we used our Glidecam rig only 2 or 3 times and since then it's been gathering dust for the last 5 years. With a wide angle lens adapter and the lens stabilizer turned on, I can pull off basically the same "steady cam" look. If it's too wobbly, the new SmoothCam effect in FCP will smooth it out.
