Paper Dancing you say? Well what is that? That's exactly why there is a documentary about it.

Any comments are greatly appreciated. Sadly, this took a couple of weekends, and poor planning throughout. I've really began to understand the importance of pre-production, because most of this was thought up right before we shot it. We used an sm57 mic, the stock dvx100b, a DIY dolly and a glidecam 2000 pro.

Thanks,
Pfista

The acting is a little too tounge-in-cheek for me, but I like the camera work. Wish I had myself a glidecam. :)

Color was quite nice, aswell.

Thanks for the comment. This is the first time I've used the glidecam for anything, and it was pretty tough, especially in the wind outside. I still need to practice a lot more though.

Yea people think it's the automatic fix to jumpy camerawork, but it's a tool that requires practice and learning just like any other. I can't wait to get my own some day.

loved the shot at the park where he is running with water on each side. (1:28-1:32)

good job...
good color & light...
great sound...
I really dont know wat paper dance is... and if its for real or something...
wat i had idea of paper dance was u dance with a girl or a partner stepping on a paper and rule was u r not suppose to go out of the required area of the paper... and later u fold it again and again... till the girl or ur partner is pretty much dancing on ur foot or something... and the person who can stay or dance in the required area for longer time wins...
well this was very different... but i dig it

Yeah, all of the dialogue / weak story is made up. Paperdancing actually started when joseph and one of his friends were fooling around during class. They would be flying the paper around and the teacher would say "STOP IT!!" cause its really annoying hearing the paper flutter around. It's always been a joke, but we wanted to make a "serious" documentary on it, with that subtle kind of comedy.

Pretty funny, and nicely shot, looked great. Nice Philip Glass at the end.

Great album. Rent Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast, and get the version that has Philip Glass's opera as an alternate soundtrack. He and his orchestra and five singers performed the opera live in front of the projected movie. I saw it in Amsterdam in '94. It's interesting. Not sure why it needed to happen, but fun to check out nonetheless.

You're not sure why they preformed live during the movie? I've never heard of anyone doing that before. That still would have been an experience though.

No, I know why they did it, I just don't know why it was necessary. Jean Cocteau's film is beautiful on its own, and the aural elements in it are spare but specific. For Philip Glass to decide that he needed to sex up the movie with his own opera seems a bit pompous. But I did enjoy it.

Have you seen Koyaanisqatsi? That was the film that first introduced me to Philip Glass. See it on a big screen.

If you really want to dive into Philip Glass, though, I would suggest Satyagraha, which is also an opera. It's performed entirely in Sanskrit, but really gorgeous and dramatic. My Favorite Philip Glass ever.

Haha, no I haven't heard of either of those. But I'll check them out. And I'm guessing the Satyagraha has something to do with non-violent protest... and Gandhi.
