A customize Full Rig

My system almost at completion. Taken many years to get to this point. Still got some tweaking of the arm and vest and the wiring and some additional parts to the sled but all should be completed really soon.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the comments. Hopefully i can get it finished before my first major shoot with this rig begins next February. And believe it or not, I will also have the honor to fly the RED with this baby. Well, I have never used the RED before so it will be a real challenge.

Hey Nick. how is your modified SK? you havn't posted any updates on HBS so I was just curious.

Hey charles, your using my parts again? lol

Here is what I have come up with so far using a couple of charles' parts. Got to say they are top notch and were a very nice upgrade to what I was working with.

Stay tuned for an arm and sled update.

Hey Mad, can I get your real name please?

BTW, this is the socket block I'm using on my arm:

Its Jon, man that looks nice and strong... Hrm.. thinking of a way to incorporate that into the basson arm. I see the arm bracket I got from you will work with one perfectly.

And this is so you can adjust how far away form the vest the arm starts? or just a disconnect point?

Update: basson arm it is, on the way. If its not all its cracked up to be (lol), ill try something else or do a few mods. Its definitely getting painted.

I figured it was you. Just wanted you full name so I can give credit where credit is due :)

As for the socket block job. It's simple. You notice that when you put the arm on and attached the sled, you sometimes find that the arm will want to go away from you. Or maybe it wants to bang into you. All you have to do is adjust the pitch of the arm with the help of the socket block, to get it to float in front of you all the time. It differs according to your style of operating. you can also adjust side-to-side movement of the arm as well, but that is seldom used.
There are some that have modded their Basson arms. on HBS. I suggest you check the mod forum out on HBS.

Some major changes first, is to remove that big knob that they have to adjust the springs. It's ridiculous. I do not know what they were thinking about when they design this arm. It's possible to really upgrade everything; but are you up to it?

I appreciate the credit. I have been on the hbsforum checking out the mods, always up for it... if there is enough time in the day.

Consider the knobs gone, all black, no lables or numbers (ill put tick marks)... Since the hbsboard is not responding... what else is really worth replacing?

Agreed on the inportance of the socket block... My current setup always drifts away from me... so I just lean back a little. On and off at an 8 hour shoot... yeah feeling the pain.

The socket block is a operator's dream. :) The big knobs also bottoms out the arm when you boom down. I see you're already managed to post on HBS. congrats. Just read some of the thread links I've posted.

Lol.. read them.. not much about the internals of the arms... Just need to add the weight to make a more stable fly. All great info. Now onto sled designs.......

You can always remove one spring to make it more manageable for the weight you had intended to use the rig for...

I bought my springs from Lesjöfors. Here is the link: http://catalog.lesjoforsab.com/catalog/default.aspx

The Load on these springs are high, but it depends on how you intend on fitting them within the arm. The ones in the pic are not specific for this arm. The one I'm getting will be rated for about 23kg aith 18kg being the sweet spot for an iso-elastic feel. Anything above that would require some extra force to boom the arm up. The arm I made cane be used as two spring setup; with 2 springs horizontally in one arm or with a 1 spring setup. Thus the one in the pic. I am planning to get titanium springs for the 2 spring setup as to reduce the weight of the arm. so I decided to use 1 spring per section and maintain 18kg to 24kg load on the arm. I have a shoot coming up next year where the producers want to use the RED...

MadHMC150, I really like your vest. It looks awesome. where did you get the parts from? do you have plans for them?

Thanks Robban,

No plans, kind of a 1 off project. Most of it was made form parts at a local store - skycraft. The belts, clips and padding are all hand made/modified... As I mentioned the breastplate and spar were recently upgraded by purchasing a few of Charles' hand me downs :)

It works like a champ (for the price). Cant wait to get the upgraded arm and sled, both in the mail.
