A Couple of Slow Motion Films

Hi Guys

Even though my GH1 is defective, I couldn't help but shoot some stuff with it.

...Because everyone looks like to BadAss when putting on sunglasses in slow motion!

And here is one with a lot of motion. Close up shots of landings filmed with a Nikon 80 - 200 mm f/2.8 @ 400 mm equivalent! Really a terrific lens!

nice pieces on and the same. I also liked your other hang-gliding on the boom arm. How long have you been doing it? Where do you do it? There's a place here in FL that's supposed to be a great place to go.. and I've been thinking of atleast trying it..

cheers and might soon be time to put the GH1 up on the wing...

Thanks for the comments guys!

Glad you found the Hang Gliding interesting, that's my primary purpose for film making - to share the sport that I love with the world (or internet at least.)

I started in May 2007 and my "home" site is Andy Jackson Airpark in San Bernardino California (just 20 miles from my house.) It is a wonderful place to fly with a great group of people. Here is our club's web site: http://www.crestlinesoaring.org/

There are a few places to fly in Florida, all are aero-tow parks. You tow up behind an ultralight to altitude, then cut loose for free flight. I recommend the Wallaby Ranch for a first time experience. Its about 40 miles from Orlando. They have an amazing safety record and the owner, Malcolm, plus all the staff are top notch. I do plan on strapping the GH1 on the hang glider. I'm not sure how well it will do for video as I would expect the rolling shutter to have issues during scenes with a lot of motion. But it held up great at 400 mm during fast pans so it might work. If video doesn't work to well, then I can still take nice stills. I have been very pleased with the quality of the still images the GH1 can take. Need to get a fast fisheye lens though, something like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/405508-REG/Olympus_261010_8mm_f_3_5_Fisheye_ED.html

400mm eh, that's why you got that super shallow dof :) I like it.

ugh... no, not at all.

DOF is created by two factors and ONLY two factors. Legnth of the lens & f-stop.

A 200mm @ f2.8 lens will have the same DOF on what ever camera you have it on (70mm, 35mm, 16mm, 4/3", 1/2", etc).

The FOV (field of view) of a 200mm lens changes depending on what camera you put it on. A 200mm lens on a 35mm film SLR is a 4x magnification, while a 200mm lens on a 4/3" camera produces a 8x magnification.
