GH5 A couple issues with my GH5. Sending it in for warranty repair soon

I like my GH5 a lot. It's my main camera for my personal and blog/review work but lately, the shutter dial is really stiff and lost the click. It comes and goes as far as how stiff it is but the click is gone. It does still work.
Another issue is the rubber coating is starting to peel off around the shutter release. Right where your index finger sits. The camera is still under warranty so I'm going to send it in but it bums me out because the rubber will probably peel again if they replace the camera. I'm curiouse if they can repair it.

Anyone have these issues? or is mine an isolated issue.

I did not have those issues but the body stopped acknowledging the battery grip. I sent it in and they took care of it and provided a loaner for the duration of the repair. It couldn't have been a better experience aside from it just working to begin with.

The rubber coating seems to be a common issue on the GH5 - lots of people on Facebook groups showing the underside of the grip area where your forefinger rests, with broken rubber in that area. So I dare say that since this didn't happen on the GH4, it's a flaw in the new rubber compound they used on the GH5.

Not sure about the shutter dial, but the positive is that you can use the button assignment to at least switch positions and use the other dial.

As you say though, send it in as all these cameras are still in warranty, and get them fixed anyway, so Panasonic knows it's an issue.

Cheers,

Paul :)

I am glad I got 3 years of warranty for my GH5. My GH3 had only 1 year warranty and it went quite bad condition after 1.5 years of normal use. My GH4 had issue (EVF fog) too after 1 year warranty.

Same problem here with the shutter dial, at the moment it only happens from time to time, hope it doesn't become permanent.

I'm having the problem with underside of the grip rubber rubbing off. I can't be without my camera so sending to TX is a no go for me.

Yes that's how it goes, just like there's sand inside the dial. Keeps like this for a couple of turns and then it's gone again.
Bought mine here in europe so it doesn't seem it's a certain batch.

I have the same problem with the rubber under the index finger. Very annoying. My dials are still ok but I had massive problems twice with the jog dial on the DVX 200 while I had it. Don't seem to be able to make reliable dials any more. :furious3:

The rubber coating where your index finger goes has started peeling on my camera also. Does Panasonic fix this under warranty?

I have this problem too , just found out the coating is peeling of in the same position. Mine is out of warranty, is anyone can tell me what it will looks like when i keep using it ? Thanks
I don't think it will become so bad. if it turns bad i will find some sticker to cover it up.

That appears to be a very common problem on the GH5. I had it as well. Called Panasonic, they send a courier to pick up the cam and I had it back just two days later with a shiny new rubber coating. ON WARRANTY of course.

Customer service at its best.

Did you have to pay for shipping to them or did Panasonic cover the shipping both ways? I'm also in need of another eyecup + the little rubber battery grip cover on the bottom of the camera. Anyone know how much those parts cost (or where to buy them) or if Panasonic is able to provide those under warranty as well?
