A couple audio questions.

I have three questions:

I was wondering if anyone ever plugs in a few corded mics into a mixer and then goes wireless from the mixer to the camera?

What are good mics for loud musical instruments outside?

Any possibility of using those $500 wireless receiver kits plugged into the mics you mention above going to camera and getting good sound?

Hi Veej,

Sure, technically it's possible, provided you match levels and impedences. Of course, going wireless you'll lose frequency response, signal to noise ratio, etc. It all depends on the application. This type of arrangement is common for wedding videographers, coming off the DJs mixer panel.

But if your audio fidelity is important, you'll want to route the mixer output directly to a digital recorder - AND - ensure "someone" is riding the faders in real time. So if you're a one-person show with limited requirements, maybe on-camera recording makes sense.

Good luck, Michael

As Moonlight said, but adding...remember that those $500 wireless kits are MONO. To feed the camera wirelessly with a STEREO signal from the mixer you'll need two of them and that raises the ante to over a thousand. If you plan on running the mics directly to the camera, you'll need a xmtr/rcvr pair for each mic. And if you use more than 2 mics you'll still need a mixer at the camera anyway.
