A cheap way to disable AGC?

I dont understand the problem. I sync audio all the time....you have to learn how to read the waveforms and then its easy. Maybe I have an advantage because in the 80s I manually removed clicks from 78rpm shellacks after digitizing when the "lets bring it out on CD" craze started. So I got a very good sense of reading audio waveforms.
So: use an extra recorder and learn how to sync the 2 audio tracks, its going to sound better.

in addition to AGC disable - I'd really like it if they made mic/line switchable, there utilizing better sounding outboard preamps straight into the camera.

So federico you are using this solution? I just proposed it as a possible option, and haven't really tried it -- I didn't try it one time, but silly me used a mono adapter, so I didn't get any audio from my interview at all. :/

I can find my adapters and try it again if it's not been tested yet. I was using my Sansa Clip mp3 player for the audible tone channel - but you could use an ipod nano or any small mp3 device I suppose...

So I was thinking about this idea, and did a little research on cables, and was wondering if it would work...

What if you connected a 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo jack to a 3.5mm stereo to 3.5mm mono splitter cable, and ran a mic into one of the mono channels and then just a cheap mp3 player with a loud track on repeat?

I know, it sounds crazy, but I thought it might be worth a shot to pump one of the channels with a loud track and have the other track be the clean audio...

Stay tuned...I may try it out this week.

Here would be the cable/adapters to use, in theory:

Think it could work? :)

What *is* all this hysteria about the GH1 sound recording ability?

Personally, I think that it's excellent - and that's a view also expressed by P Bloom when he first got a GH1

I've read the various threads moaning about the awful GH1 and it's much hated AGC, and the inability to control levels - and I've tried hard to agree with the consensus that it is a bad camera for sound......but I can't.

I use two GH1 (13)'s, and have a Rode SVM, a Sennheiser MKE300, a Chinese shotgun mic, and a Tascam recorder.

I use Pluraleyes to sync the Tascam soundtracks - but, in all honestly, it's a pointless exrcise 99% of the time because the GH1 audio is so good.

Many times I've synced up an audio track - and realised that the Tascam recording was only marginally better than the GH1 track, and often the GH1 track is every bit as good.

So, honestly, I just don't understand why people denigrate the GH1 audio capabilities so much.

i'm using a mobile phone to play the 19khz tone (you may find the mp3 in internet), in a channal i have the tone and in the other the voice. No auto gain. I like it.
