A Cautionary Tale...

The only downfall to buying on DVXuser as opposed to Ebay is, if you get screwed there is no recourse. Unless you live within driving distance and then that's a different story.

ChipG was a user that had a ton of posts and seemed like a up and up guy. He had sold some items before. I paid for my items back in June and have not received them to date.

If I would've went through Ebay and PayPal I could've opened a complaint. Now keep in mind these don't work if the user has no funds in his account so you may be out of luck there too.

So to all those that are selling maybe you could post or have available you seller credentials whether it is your Ebay rating or satisfied buyers from this forum.

I see a couple sellers already doing this and it is good to see.

If we want other users to buy here we have to make sure we ensure a positive experience.

I'm amazed, ChipG has been nothing but helpful on the boards, answering a bunch of PM's I sent him a while back, for him to be so public on the boards, and then this. I hope there is some explanation for what he's done.

That's simply not true, because...

You could have used PayPal. And a credit card.

Almost all my transactions as a buyer and seller, on this board and others, are through PayPal. And, depending on a number of variables, a dispute through PayPal can sometimes be resolved and you refunded even if the other party doesn't have "funds" in their PP account. And keep in mind, eBay is PayPal, so there's not a lot of difference in protection, just protocols. I won't praise PayPal, but in my experience I'd rather handle a dispute through them than the farmed out, pathetic eBay customer service (their dispute resolution is pathetic). Furthermore, if you use a credit card through PayPal, you always have the option of taking it up with your credit card company and chargebacks.

Outside of those levels of protection, you can always go to court...

Court, no, you'd really have to lose a lot.

Paypal and CC yes, I agree, I missed that, if you do have buyer protection.

Claims from Ebay, if payment made through paypal, get worked out through paypal not Ebay.

A lot? It's the opposite. Small claims court is usually limited to $4000 or $5000 max claims in most states. If not less. Most small claims cases are sub-$1000.

Not necessarily. If it's an eBay transaction and you paid through PayPal, you may have to resolve it through eBay. You can find yourself unable to open a claim via your PayPal account; instead being directed/linked to eBay claims.

I've no idea how I would do the small claims considering I am in Canada and he is in the US, somewhere.

Never experienced the Ebay thing, well, only when they want you to contact the other party through Ebay but other than that the two cases that I had were both through Paypal. Not saying that you might have to go through Ebay, I just never experienced it that way.

Well if anyone knows or lives within driving distance of ol' Chip maybe they could pay him a visit.

I had several conversations with him on the phone that always ended in him saying he was going to send them out the next day.

Maybe this just goes to show, you just never know. I have no time to drag this out but just wanted to post to remind buyers to beware. As they always ought to be before buying anything.

Chip isn't even a part of the forum anymore to my understanding.

It goes both ways though. As a seller I've had the old, "post count 5; "yeah that sounds great, I'll buy that, just send me an email".

Good to know. I'm lucky i havn't get burn yet well almost. At one time i thought i got burn but i end up got the guy address, phone number, where he got the good from and best of all his credit card number written on it. I guess it good being "bad" well bad for good as long as i'm not using the "bad" doing bad heheh.

I bought my stuffs with my hard earn money so i expect people to restpect my hard earn money as i do respect thiers. Please keep it honest.

If you paid with paypal contact paypal for a claim must not exceed 45days from the day that you pay. it even better if you pay with a credit card. So if you buy or sell and you did not get your stuff with in 3 weeks start digging and dont trust what they promissed you.

ReelAccess.com trying to screw me over $5200 we email everyday promise me a lots he even said it shipped and had the tracking but just not near a computer to email to me a refuse to text it to me fishy is'nt, but still scam me for my hard earn money. It took a while and almost a heart attack but i got my money back. I put it behind but since this topic i want to warn you guys about them too. Good luck all.

P.S save all communication between you and seller/buyer sms, email. whatever it is save them if you honest ofcourse it will help you a lots. You will not get your inbox full email these day are unlimited anyway. SAVE THEM.

1 Dog, I feel your pain. It really sucks when an online transaction goes bad. I am not familiar with the member you are discussing, but from all you say, I probably would have trusted him too had I been aware of his presence here and looking at his offering.

I've bought a few things here and sold a couple too. On Ebay I have two accounts, one for strictly selling with almost 200 feedbacks and 100% satisfaction. My buyer account is almost 400 feedback. People are more apt to leave you feedback if you send them money, as of against when they are the buyer. :-)

All that being said, there is risk in all online buying and selling. We all try or should be trying to minimize that risk, but because it is not face to face, there is risk there.

My experiences on Ebay and elsewhere are that I am going to get screwed somewhere around the rate of 1 out of every 10 to 1 out of every 15 transactions. Most times it is complete misrepresentation of what I finally get, that is way off the description I made my purchase decision from. There have also been those where the seller evaporated too. Because I have enough buying history now and know what approx. percentage of my getting screwed is, I try to look at my savings from the other purchases I have made and make sure I am still ahead of the game, even though my most recent purchase went south.

When I am buying, I look at a lot of my bids/buys as "can I afford to lose that much money?" in deciding whether to bid/buy from that seller or not. I often have to weigh the potential savings, against the risk, before making the decision to give it a whirl, or buy elsewhere instead.

Regardless of all of that 1 Dog, I do hope your situation gets resolved.

@ChipThome, I agree 100%. I have no ill feelings regarding the transaction. It happens, that's the nature of the game.
The funny thing is, I've been told Chip does jobs where he is away for a couple months at a time and he probably has my item stuffed away in a closet.
In reality I don't plan on ever receiving what I paid for and thats fine, I have more important things to deal with.

The title of this thread is a typical one. The real point is just a reminder, the more the buyer is aware the more likely a positive transaction. Just keeping people on their toes.
