A card reader?

When buying the af100 do I also need a card reader? Or can I get the footage directly from the camera to my computer?

Are there any advantages / disadvantages to any of the two workflows?

You can offload the video files directly from the camera with USB.

The advantage with a card reader is you don have to pick up your camera out of the bag to do so.

Yes, as long as it's compatible with the type of card you're using (SDHC or SDXC).

Of course. As long as your laptop's reader is compatible with SDHC, it will work.
