I made “A Cajun Cinderella” as the final project for my first video course at GMU. The cast (all amateurs if you couldn’t tell) are members of the dance community. Step sister and fairy godmother do amateur improv work. The Cajun/Zydeco community reacted positively and I’m looking to do more

I watched this, and it was kinda neat. You have lots to work on, but not bad for one of your first attempts. Sound could be improved, shot selection, and your whole look, basically looked like video (if that makes any sense).

Acting wasnt to bad, and i really liked the Wheres Waldo prince.

soundadvice:

- recording a boom on one track and camera mice on the other track (left and right) is useful and not a bad idea.... But....don't forget to put it back again in Left AND right.

- I was very surprised that the music was one continuous sounding thing. Normaly for first shooters I hear a lot of cuttings. But that was good.

- editing wise: dear to cut more out... don't think "oooo I HAVE to make a 3minutes movie so I will make some shots longer so that people fall a sleep... don't. Like the changing part of Cinderella... Don't show the shoes for hours...

- If you want to make a "special effect shot"...don't move your camera... and tape some colored tape on the floor in the shape of the shoes...so you exactly know where the person was standing. Tape it AFTER the first shot (scene) of course.....

Your comments are exactly the sort I was seeking from this forum. I knew about the problem with sound from only one channel at the time I edited the piece but didn’t know how to fix it. Now I have some local resources to go for help with that.
Your observation about the length of the shot of the “old boots” is something I was blind to and I see your point.
Thanks!
