A Base Plate That Won't Break the Bank?

Hey all,

I've been looking around for a proper base plate to attach my AF100 to my rod system that I used with my DSLR. I can't seem to find one south of $300 dollars, though. Is there any simple base plate that any of you have used that won't break the bank?

Thanks!

That's actually the exact one I have. I just wanted something that sits a little lower so the camera isn't sitting so high up off the rods. I don't know why base plates tend to be so expensive.

15mm Lightweight rod systems are designed to place the center point of the lens 85mm above the center point of the rods. That base is designed for DSLRs, which tend to have the lens mount low on the body, hence the rather tall design of it. When selecting a base for a given camera, make sure you can adjust its height to get the center of the lens mount at 85mm. That way matte boxes, follow focus' etc will all line up properly.

Yeah, I know. I previously shot on the GH1 and that was part of my rig, so now that I've upgraded to the AF100 as my A camera, I need a better base plate.

Tommy,

Take a look at our microSupportBaseplate that is at the heart of all of our digital cinema camera bundles. It works beautifully with the AF100 (or any Digital Cinema Camera at that matter). The rail block is shimmable and the camera riser is left right adjustable, so it makes it a pretty universal piece. It also sports a nice quick release system that is the same plate most of the higher end Manfrotto Tripods use. The thing I love about the quick release system is you can buy a sled package and place it on all of your support for quick turn over.
