$9000 For HVX and Accessories - Suggestions?

This is my first post, but I have been reading posts on this website for over a year and have found the information a great asset.

I will soon have $9000.00 to spend on HVX and accessories. My initial thought is to buy an HVX, 1 8gb P2 (plus I get one free if I buy before the year is out), perhaps a P2 Store. That alone will probably run me near $8k, but with the feedback I've been reading tells me there's issues with focusing using the camera LCD or Viewfinder, so I'd like to get some feedback on any monitor options.

I already have DV Rack recently upgraded to HD and have a Adobe Suite with AE, Audition, Encore and Premiere Pro (have to upgrade to 2.0 to support HVX). Yes, I've wanted to change over to a Final Cut Pro system, but spending a $800 to upgrade is much cheaper than starting over with new HW and SW in the Apple world. I'll get there someday, just not today.

Long term I'm also looking at getting the Redrock M2 adapter and Microfocus.

Am I on the right track here? If you had $9k for the camera and accessories, what would you suggest?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. It's nice to finally have something to post! :)

The HVX and one p2 card would run you a little over 6300 from www.spec-comm.com who is an authorized dealer. You can also get an additional 2% off when you pay by certified check. You will also get one of their long life batteries

So figure 6300 cam and p2. that leaves 2700.

depending on what you plan on doing, will help to know what you need.

but you need mic's

Need a decent tripod

Those two things alone would easily put you at 9k and beyond.
Check some of the older threads for some info on mics and tripods. There is a great sticky in the audio section.

I got two wireless lavaliers, and a shotgun. That put me at about 1500 right there. And I still need more.

My tripod was 1200.

Plus shipping, potential taxes. 9k won't get you much, but depending on what you need. I think you can get some decent stuff. But you may wind up with a its a one or the other, not both kind of deal, unless you want to get cheap stuff that you will have to replace soon anyways.

gotta go

Jason,

Yes, I already have a boom mic, a small crane, a small dolly and a good bogen head tripod. I was using a Sony PD150 for a long time and am looking to upgrade.

I'll check out spec-comm. Thanks for the info!

Looks like you have a pretty decent clip of things already, so 9 k is more than enough for the camera and a p2 card (plus a free p2 card, allegedly from oct1st-dec31st). That'll leave you a few grand to get what else you might want.

Jason

p.s. I upgraded from my old sony dcr-trv 950 :)

Consider adding a Marshall 7" HD monitor to your shopping list. It will be a tremendous help when it comes to critical focus. You can check prices for one at B&H, Zacuto and many other online vendors. You can also find a number of reviews of the monitor here in the HVX forum.
