$900 to have my firewire port repaired on the DVX!

Shouldn't be capturing with your DVX. It's like having a supermodel girlfriend and then pimping her on sunset boulevard.

yeah man capturing with your primary shooting camera is a big no. just go on ebay and buy a canon zr1 small little dv camera for like 150$ and use that as a capture deck.

simple and cheap.

It wears the heads down.

Excuse me for asking... but what is the disadvantage of doing that? Any loss of quality or anything? Does the secondary cam interpret what it registers? Or is it just the jolly good same?

All you need is the second cam and a cable?

Sorry if these are dumb questions.. but I am still kinda new to my DVX100...

And I would hate to wear the head down.. Heard it is costly..

Eventually the heads won't work anymore. The $150 camera will capture just as good as the DVX but you don't have to worry about breaking a $3500 camera.

All you need is the second camera and a firewire cable.

it'll simply put more wear and tear on your cameras heads. In the long run paying 150$ on a cheapy 1 chip capture cam is definitly worth it, instead of spending 500$ to replace your heads.

edit: sorry "nocash" thought this was a 1 page thread and i just fast replied and said the same thing you did.

Once the video is on tape, its digital. The DVX does the magic when it lays it on tape. A cheap camera just moves the 1s and 0s to the computer. It changes nothing.

When you capture and edit the camera plays, and rewinds, and fast forward etc - It beats it up over time.

Think of a $20 card reader transferring a picture taken with a high end digital camera... Doe not matter that card reader is $20, it matters what the camera did when picture was taken

Ahh okay... I got it now :p... I had some other constellation in mind - like say record through the dvx100 to a tape in the cheap one... must be because it is 05:17 and I still havent slept... *sigh*

Makes perfectly sense to me...

Y'all're assuming he's capturing in the edit bay... maybe the dude's capturing live. I do a lot of that... and am very protective of my firewire port!

I got a ZR80 for capturing $250

and as a second cam, when u hit the night mode button it gives u that "frame" look found on the XL1s and GL2
