$900 to have my firewire port repaired on the DVX!

Uhhh....I never captured with the camera. It went out while I was filming one day...of course the warranty was out. The F'ed up thing is no DV rack/Firestore/Quickstream etc. Pissed off...900 is better spent elsewhere especially considering that its a first gen camera.

You pay $900 because the service guys are lazy and chose to replace the whole VTR board instead of replacing a chip on that board. Alternatively they dont know how to do it and/or they don't have the tools to do it. It would cost you much less - the chip itself is around $75 and it takes a couple of hours to replace it. You do the maths.
