HPX250: 9 hour shoot? What should I do?

Ah yes. I have the AB gold plate that converts to 4-pin power XLR and 2-pin power tap. I guess one would needs some sort of down voltage converter (fr. 14.4 [+-] to 7.2 VDC) circuit board. The rest is manual soldering and ordering of the dummy power plate. AB sells power tap connector to open ended - ideal for those who's inclined to do the custom cable. But directly from AB, I don't think it has any product to power Panasonic 1/3" cams fr either Dionic or Hytron batts.

As a for now solution, I have AB's quad battery holder that accepts any 4 Hytron 140s or Dionics. I use this to run demanding EFP equipment where there's no AC power. It is smart enough to drain 1 battery at a time and the user simply replace the drained one. Completely perpetual power design. From the 12 or 28 V outputs, I have a DC-AC power inverter and plug in any 120 V power source. It's pretty good and chemical free vs. a cheap car battery.

Maybe that's the solution: Big Battery Bank -> 12V output -> Inverter -> Standard Panasonic AC adapter

Or buy one of those 100Ah all-in-one car battery/inverter packages and just run off that

Thanks

Back in 2007-2009, I tried those car battery products. It worked about 1-2 months then all of the sudden dead. This is with 3 different brands of the same product. Friend of mine had no luck either. So something telling me that these 12 V car grade battery are just not reliable when using it in video. I'd stay away from them. $150 investment gone to waste.

The only one that lasts a long time are the AB Hytron 140 batteries in a quad power configuration. Granted it's not cheap as each of Hytron 140 battery is about $500 and you need at 8 or more for reliable field power.

I know it looks like it was probably built for the DVX-100 (and it probably was) but the AB web site shows this as the correct device for the HPX-250. You'll likely need some kind of mounting system, of course. On the AB site click the "HOW TO CHOOSE" link at the top and fill in the blanks. It will give you run times for their battery line - 9 hours with a Diconic 160! Isn't that the OP's time span? The AB ElipZ system also is compatible with the HPX-250 but I didn't investigate that any further.

Ah yes. Will be ordering this tomorrow. AB sure has a lot of new products recently. A Hytron 140 will serve as a nice battery that will last at lest 6 hrs straight on the HPX250 vs 2.5. They even have the gold mount -> Mac Book Pro mag safe power cable. Can't keep up with them. Good tip.

Brilliant - thanks a lot for that it's just perfect :)

Looks like that's also the right one for my 3DA1, and maybe even the Z10000 as well since they all use CGA-D54 batteries.

I'm in the UK but Markertek UK have it for £145:

And RCB Logic for a slightly more:

Cheers!
