8mm real time film telecine using the Canon 5Dmk2

This is my method for transferring 8mm footage using the Canon 5Dmk2 in real time direct to the sensor.

It's a process I have been working on for a couple of years. I needed a fast high quality way to transfer 8 & Super 8 film from the family archives. Also to aid filmmakers using 8mm film today.

A full description and method can be views on the Vimeo description page.

Below the first main video are two film transfers using this method.

Thanks, James

FANTASTIC!

My god thats ingenious.... how do you off set for the framerate and shutter, just shoot 30p wtih a 1/30th shutter?

Hi Tim, The projector is running at 18fps with 3 blades, the Canon is set to 24p and Shutter at 1/50 (uk) . I also added a second drive belt as I noticed by doing so the flicker all but disappeared.

what lens did you take apart to do this?
its not even my home movie yet i had a lump in my throat!!
nice work

This is awesome. Thanks for this. I'm going o try something similar with my AF100 and my 16mm projector. I have a ton of old 16mm films I'd like to transfer.

This is awssum We do the old method thru a telecine adapter and a variable speed Elmo still you are not able to get a flickerless result but this WOW thank you thank you if you were near i would have given you a really good bottle of Red wine........ James you the man........
