8K video with D800 and some post magic

I spent last summer shooting this project. 8K 12bit raw in order to get the highest image quality available to date. We used Hasselblad and Nikon lenses. The final piece was mastered and delivered in 4K resolution.
The Quicklapse technique is a way to generate ultra high resolution real time video. By capturing continuous bursts of still images and applying interpolation algorithms in post-production to fill up the missing frames we are able to create unsurpassed video quality.

That's the secret of the good ole D800 :-)
Btw, I had best results by slowing down the footage; a single jpg running for 3-5 frames including heavy blending/crossfading and what was a hectic, chaotic and unpleasent timelapse before, suddenly transforms in some magic. Try it with stuff like clouds in the sky after sunset, distant water reflections, wandering lights & shadows etc.
Normally I shoot in tiffs as I hate Nikon's Capture for the speed and PS for the results of the raw converting.
sold my d800 with >200'000 activations last week, grapping a d810 or d750 today.
thx for sharing

ps:
while a d800 may be a bit expensive for freelancing, I had very acceptable results with my old D700/D300 as well (sold as well with >200'000)... the higher framerate helps reallywith moving water after sunset. A friend of mine grapped a D3 for this reason.

I did a few timelapses captured in 8k raw with the d800 and its just insane how good it looks. Especially liked the complex movements that made it feel lite realtime motion. If they could make a body for this sensor that could shoot 25fps and realtime convert it to 4K it would be one of the best imagerecorder in the world.

btw: why did you choose to shoot 12bit instead of 14?

Congrats for the experiment. Always in the best tradition. Nice to see you (I won't write: "back to") in your best old times...
