86 minute single take feature on a 5d mark 2

How is this even possible since the 5d has a 12min recording limit? maybe using the NINJA or something. Movie looks interesting though.

a lot better looking than the last 1 take continuous horror/comedy movie I saw floating around the forums.

Single Take implies that it's a continuous moment. Which means there are cuts, but the camera doesn't ever cut from a certain "angle" if that makes sense. Like, it can pan, stop, zoom, etc but the content is always in one steady moment.

It is not a one "shot", which implies that the camera never cuts.

It's crafty advertising, but not exactly a lie. It is, however, cheap, and have heard that the movie is not good. Will judge for myself.

At least the audio sounds like captured wit the internal microphone.
As long as they don't used a zoom lens, it looks like they changed lenses between takes.

Sounds like marketing buzz to me.

Not only the 12 minute recording limit, but how did they overcome overheating and battery issues? I am kind of interested in the steps they took to do that all in one continuous shot.

This is technically possible using something like a AJA Ki Pro Mini or similar recorder, but the video signal that goes out from the 5dmkII via HDMI is not great and so I would imagine the film doesn't look so good on the big screen, if indeed they did shoot one long take. But really, it would be nearly impossible to accomplish a film like this in one long take, in real time, technology aside.

Given the amount of darkness in the trailer and the "Go back to sleep" line, I would bet there are a few moments of full screen black where they could make a cut, and then when the light comes back it appear to be continuous.

I saw the film today, and pretty close to every 12 minutes the camera would dip into darkness. If I wasn't looking for it, I might have fallen for it, but I was watching for it big time.
They did a better job than "rope."

Russian Ark, the finest one take feature I have ever seen. If you have not seen it you should. No tricks, one take, and this was in 2004 or 2005.

The trailer says continuous shot though, so they must be lying. Or is this possible with a ninja?

I continually shoot a wedding ceremony..... i.e. I don't stop and take a rest, but the camera stops every 12 mins or so and I have to press record again. So, it all comes down to how you interpret the words.

Sokurov is one of my favorite directors! Yes,no tricks at all. Beautiful.
And i'm a fan of long takes. I love the intro of De Palma's "Snake Eyes". But there are many invisible cut in the scene. Another beautiful long take is the ending of Antonioni's "Professione Reporter" with Jack Nicholson. Oh, "Touch of evil" and "The GoodFellas" and so on and on!
