816t

I have an oppurtunity to buy an sennheiser 816t for well under 200 bucks. It works fine and since I'm using a FP33 , T-power is no problem. Is this a good deal? Should I buy it or let it go? Thanks for your imput and Happy New Year!

If it's in good working order, I'd say don't wait another second. Those mics are in high demand, and usually sell used for $600. Worst case scenario, if you don't end up using it, you can sell it for a couple of hundred more than what you paid for it and make a little on it.

Every now and then one of these posts comes along and I keep asking myself where in the hell these guys are finding these DEALS!?

Some guy got a 416 a while back for peanuts!

WTF?

you have to ask your self if you loke to kill another 700 on the windshield and if you use lousy boom - you will have to add some more ( lets say that even k-teck is no best solution for that one full loaded
but 200 is exellent price by the way if the mic in good condition even it not in the best the sennheiser charge around 100 for equing it

Not a lot of uses for an 816 unless you're outside or on a really quiet soundstage.

I have one, but seldom deploy it. Your work may be different. Good price tough.

If it were me, I'd buy it and just turn around and re-sell it for $600 just to make a few bucks.

If I were you I'd send a PM to me so that I could buy it.

See how much I care about your wants and needs? You should thank yourself for being so considerate and PM me with that info since you know that's what I would do as the parrallel universe you... where you are me.

Everyone here is lying to you joe. That guy is trying to cheat you. Send me his contact info and I will tell him off for you.

816t

 Thanks fellas! As always your advise has been invaluable. I went ahead and bought the mic and am sending it to sennheiser for minor repairs. Although I received a blimp with it, I'll still need the other stuff exile mentioned. That being said, it's still a nice mike. Thanks again guys and good luck on the scfi.
P.S. I'm looking at buying a neumann 82I for around $450 bucks. There's some cosmetic damage but it appears to be working ok. What do you think? Pass or Go?
Thanks again!

I'd pass on that Neumann... I've got a friend who's selling a mint 81i for $13.25.

Um... how many pages of "snatch that up" do you want to create here?

As many as it takes. These are not mikes that are usually discussed on the forum and as my funds are limited, I don't want to buy a pink elephant. I've found your advice very helpfull and I did end up buying the k-tek on your recommendation. (The pole works great by the way). The posts on this forum (dvxuser) have been far more helpful than any of the other boards I frequent so you'll excuse me if I milk it for all it's worth. Thanks again and a speical thanks to exile.
PS...Tell your friend I'll take it!

You can't go wrong with any Neumann shotgun or any high-end Sennheiser gun. If you find another of either at a great price and you don't want it feel free to let us all fight over it.

Well they're not normally discussed because most people tend to ask 'I have $18 what is the best shotgun for me to buy'.

The 416t is a good mic, as is anything from Neuman. You will be very happy with the results.

Just to rub salt in a few wounds, I also picked up an 816T today for a great price.

Thats about $210. Them bargains are out there!

Now, what the hell am I going to do with it?
I own a 416T and a 416 P48, so I am selling a 416T on ebay in the next week or so. In great working order as well. I will keep the P48 convertor to use with the 816.

So please tell me, what's the difference between a 416 and an 816? And what's the best use for the 816? Indoors or out? Dialogue or general action?

I only brought it because its so darn cheap and even if I have no use for it, it's got to be worth much more than I paid for it. It was only online for a couple of hours so I grabbed it before anyone else got their mits on it.

Cheers

816 outdoors... longer ranges. Need laser precision if you're booming. That's gonna' be a fun mic to play with... I'll bet you'll really enjoy it.

No mic is great at distance (except a big ears I guess) but this is as good as it gets for shotguns at distance.

Thanks. I'll have a good play with it when it arrives and make a decision whether to keep it or stick it back on ebay.

We are shooting a feature in June and are more or less there with gear now. Just need to get the Sound Devices 722 and we are set. Trouble is they never come up on ebay! Contemplating the Marantz 671.

Steve,

Before you go with the Marantz, I would take a look at the Tascam HD-P2. I was using the Marantz for the last year or so, and it is good, but everything I have seen in my Tascam blows away the Marantz. The display and information on it are better, the sound is better, the media management is better. And, it does more. It will record at the various necessary frame rates with pull-up and pull-down built in. You can jam it from an external TC source and get free-run TC (just got my new TC slate, too...it is so cool watching the timecodes stay in synch. Okay, yes, I have no life. The little things amuse me.) The price is roughly the same for the two...I cannot see any reason why anyone would ever buy the Marantz again, now that the Tascam is out. (That being said, I will be posting shortly a used, but in excellent condition Marantz in the for sale forum here... ;-)

Phil

(Who knows...maybe an 816 for a Marantz trade??? :-)

I have the marantz and I really like it, but yeah, the Tascam unit came out almost right after I got the Marantz. I probably would have taken a hard look at the Tascam unit myself.

Overall I'm still really impressed with the marantz, but my only complaint is if I'm monitoring at the mixpre and switch between tape monitor and the mixpre output I can hear a significant difference in the soundstage. With the mixpre a mono mic recording seems to play in the dead center of my head (between the phones) and on the 671 it's in the center and in the cans... and with stereo on the mixpre there's a super wide field that gets audibly narrower in the 671.

My guess is that has something to do with a channel seperation spec.

So whatever... I do like it, but I don't know if I'd buy another 671 or not.

Well I have the 816 here and have tested it and it works a treat. Quite different from the 416!

Talking of a Sennheiser 416, I have decided to put one up for sale. Its a 416T in perfect working order. Has a few bits of wear on it through the black paint buut works perfectly. Reason for sale is I have just got a 416 P48.

I will post worldwide no problems at all. I will even take an offer, providing the buyer can pay via Paypal.
