ok so i take 30p footage into a 24p timeline, slow it to 80% (which is supposed to be glass smooth) & it looks choppy as hell. then i take the same clip, 30p timeline, 80%, and it looks near perfect.. is there anything else i should be doing differently in the first method that isnt discussed in the dvx book? cuz it looks pretty awesome at 80% in the 30p timeline..

A better method might be to use a program like Cinema Tools to conform the 30 fps footage to 24 fps. This keeps all the original frames, but logs the footage as 24 fps, making it 25% longer (remeber, the ratios only work one way). This footage will then play back in a 24p timeline without incident.

Cinema Tools does slow down the audio to match the video, so you might want to save a separate audio track if you need the production audio. But if you're slowing down the video, odds are the production audio doesn't matter that much to you.
