Some machinists friengs are offering to make me a couple of press-fit lens gears. Does anyone know where I can get a drawing for the dimensions of the threads?

you can order some of the zacuto zipgears without the snap for a couple bucks on their website. you should be able to use those to either make your gears or get an accurate measurement from them. Honestly, im not sure why there isnt more diagrams of a lot of this kind of equipment..

What do you intend to use your gears with? For example: some kind of follow-focus accessory or remote control, etc.? Have your machinist friends actually measure the pitch of the mating gear(s) and make your gears to match. If they are good machinists, they should be able to do this. If not, you are doing them a favor and prompting them to learn something important to their trade.

I agree with twotonepunkkid that the Zacuto plastic gear strips are probably much more practical (and interchangably usable) than machining hard gears for a particular diameter. The Zacuto plastic strips can be attached to the lens using the kind of double-stick tape used for vehicle body work (for chrome accessories and decoration, etc.) There is a good reference in this forum demonstrating this technique.

I've worked as a machinist, and they'll for sure get the measures of the pitch of both the lens ring and FF gear as well as the ID of said lens gears before they even set up their tooling. If they are gonna run them thru an automatic CNC or any other computer ran machine, it'll turn out how it should. I've actually been thinking about doing the same thing. I'd just love to have geared lenses, one less piece of plastic to lose or break or not do what it's supposed to while I'm shooting. Lemme know how that goes if you get em made!!!
