8 core mac fast enough?

A few months ago I bought an 8-core mac and put 8 gigs of ram in it. Will it be fast enough to edit full quality ex1 footage? I bought this camera to edit hdv footage, not even knowing that the EX1 was around. Will I have lag on my system, or will it handle it like a walk in the park? Any info appreciated.

Dude I don't even think there is any software out there that utilizes 8 core processors except scientific calc stuff and 3 modeling programs. Needless to say you have way more power than can even be used at this point. I think you'll be fine(:

THe weakest link in new computers is the hard drive speed. Get a RAID setup if you're doing any kind of HD to gain optimum performance.

On the new mac pros there are 15000RPM Hard drives. Two of these in RAID 0...Super speed! They can do 10 bit uncompressed HD.

Hi, I have cut a music-clip in HDV (Canon AH1) on a macbook with 2 GB Ram! It worked just fine! The effect stuff I did on my MacPro 2,66GHZ. So I guess your 8-core Mac with 8GB should run like hell!

Thanks guys. I am relieved to know I can edit without problems. Now I just need to get one of these cameras and figure out a work-flow/archival solution.
