i use my fisheye in squeeze mode all the time

In squeeze mode, the top and bottom of the image is removed and then the image is digitally stretched vertically. If you're using a low-quality wide-angle adapter, any of its faults will get magnified during the stretching process. If you're using high-quality glass, you'll be fine.
