Hi,

Today, when I was recordign 240p, my 7Q turned off randomly a couple of times.
It didn't seem to be a battery issue. I was swichting between 60 and 240p.
I was walking while recoring.

Any ideas how this could have happend?

Are my files now corrupted?

What steps do I have to follow?

Not cool (but maybe I was duing something wrong.)

Anybody had this problem as well? Thanks for the help!

Cheers

It's the batteries most certainly. What batteries are you using? I Bet its some 3rd party stuff - had the same issues with some, at least at a point where the voltage reached a certain level. try original sony ones, the npf-970 work good, if not always perfect. the small 770's are pretty useless for highspeed and high power draws... YMMV

No - only original NP-F batteries. Though I worked with the 770. But why sould this be a problem?
So you are just working with 970? They are not as handy on the O7Q :P

@ mitch: can you confirm this, that certain batteries can cause a problem while recording high speed?

how old are they? as far as i can remember it, the voltage must be at a certain level (see the top left corner) i cant remember the exact values unfortunately.

I had more success with the 970's - but it really depends how good they can hold their maximum voltage, and how long they can sustain a high current draw.

ps... check your files, mine were never corrupted, i believe Mitch once mentioned that the odyssey first shuts down the screen and finishes recording prior to powering down.

I finally switched over to V-Mount Batteries, as they can power the whole rig for much longer make the rig less front heavy. I still have 6 NPF's lying around, but i mostly use them for playing back the footage with my clients while having dinner on a shoot - portable and lightweight stuff, mostly.

I've used 3rd party DSTE brand 770 batteries with my Hawkwoods dual battery plate with no problems for well over a year now. I have no statistics and have not tried personally but I have the impression that most people having problems with power it's due to using a battery plate that only has one NPF battery, be it 3rd party or official Sony.

Shooting high speed certainly draws considerably more power, and those little batteries are already on the bottom range of what can power the Odyssey. It may well be that you are overly taxing them when you attempt to record.

There's an easy test. Try using the AC power supply that came with your Odyssey. If the screen still blacks out then we know we have a problem, but if it is fine then you likely need bigger batteries.

Most common service calls:
1 - People using inferior cables for either SDI or HDMI input
2 - People using weak batteries
3 - People set to the wrong function on the camera or Odyssey
