Hey guys! So one of my main "IN" SDI connector came loose and broke off on my Atomos recorder and now I'm forced to purchase a new recorder because I bought it used anyway and there's no warranty . I refuse to spend money on another Atomos or for repairs when my original plan was to invest in a 7Q+ anyway. So Im about to go ahead and pull the trigger. So far in my B&H cart I have the 7Q+ package that includes the recorder and 2x 256GB SSD's, the USB 3 SSD transfer cord, and a Sony L series battery plate since I plan on running off of external batteries. Before I buy just wanted to hear from you guys and get your advise on anything else accesory wise that I'll need for the 7q+ paired with the F35? Thanks in advance guys

I kitted mine out with the solidcamera.com kit so you may want to go that route, but you seem to have it covered otherwise. I would also get the sunshade for it and a p-tap power cable.

Hey thanks LowDown..going to check that kit right now. Do you have picture of your rig you could share? :-)

I second the p-tap cable. It comes in handy when using it on a gimbal or other rigs where you might want to power multiple devices.

Also, I purchased a thunderbolt SSD dock from seagate. It gets great transfer speeds. Although I never used the usb3 version, I imagine the thunderbolt is superior in transfer speeds.

I personally didn't have great luck with CD's USB 3.0 SSD transfer cable. My PC would have trouble connecting with the SSDs and would frequently lose connecting in the middle of transfers. Not sure if I just got a bad one (bought from B&H). I believe any SSD to USB 3.0 cable will work though. I found a cheap on amazon with good reviews and haven't had any issues since.

I have CD's USB 3.0 reader and haven't had a problem with it-my Atomos one though is the flaky one. I've also been able to use the Atomos USB reader on my CD SSD's so anything out there should work.

OP I agree with the P-Tap cable and the Solid Camera rig. Helps so much to mount accessories and a bit added protection to my 7Q

I also suggest our P-Tap cable. Whatever battery plate rig you're using to power the camera likely has a P-Tap on it, and if not it is easy enough to add one.

If you do want a battery plate on the back of the Odyssey and you are starting from scratch without a pile of batteries in hand, I would suggest using the Sony U-series instead. These are 14.4v so you will get more use out of each brick before the battery dies.

For mounting the Solid Camera is excellent, but there are other options as well. I think you should first decide where you would like the Odyssey to be and then work on the solution from there. MovCam, Ocean Video and Nebtek all made excellent dedicated solutions, and there are some interesting more generic solutions such as the Wooden Camera Recorder Slide.

Thanks guys!

Also Mitch thanks so much. I think I'll just go the P-tap route as you and everyone else here seems to be suggesting. Im using a Switronix Sony f3 plate for the F35 and it has 2 P-tap connectors. Thanks again...Btw, Im assuming that P-TAP is interchangeable with D-TAP right and they are both the same thing?? am I right?
