7Q 4k workflow - FCPX proxies issue

Hey everyone,

So I'm having some trouble and can't figure out what may be wrong.

I'm working on a late 2013 iMac with everything maxed out. Editing off a thunderbolt lacie rugged drive.

I just shot something entirely on the 7Q, created my 4k (UHD) Prores HQ files out of Resolve 10.1, brought it into FCPX 10.1 and created proxies internally in FCPX for everything.

Now as I understand it, this should work smoothly... but every few seconds the audio briefly drops. Then after about 10 seconds of playback, the video starts to freeze as well. The entire timeline is also rendered for preview, and it's still dropped. I even tried changing the project settings from UHD down to 1080p and the same thing is happening.

I've search far and wide, and the consensus seems to be that what I'm doing is correct and this should be running smoothly. I can't figure out why this may be. I've restarted the computer, closed every single program except FCPX, but the issue is continuing.

I'm only having this issue with the 7Q shot files out of Prores. Editing HQ prores from 5D3 raw also out of resolve works fine. I don't have any other 4k footage to confirm if it's something on fcpx or the files themselves.

When jumping into the FCPX library (via finder/show all contents), the proxy files playback fine via quick look. In fact, i seem to be able to get a bit more (i.e., 15-20 seconds) of smooth playback BEFORE i render for preview, then when I actually render it and the orange bar disappears.

Does anybody have ideas on what may be wrong here? As i understand, FCPX should have no issue with its own proxies.

Thanks,

Yup, tho better playback is greyed out when Proxy is selected.

I've created a new library and reimported all. Seems to be working. Maybe a bug in FCPX?
