7D vs GH1 comparison video please?

I would love to see a side by side 7D and GH1 comparison video. I tweeted at Phillip Bloom asking him if he would make one and he responded - probably not, the 7D is "leagues better" than the GH1. sigh, makes me sad :( i'm dying to see a true side by side. anyone know of one?

The 7D is not out yet.

Don't make a choice just because Mr. Bloom prefers the 7D.

We're in a period of very rapid technical innovation in video devices. Don't be surprised if quality at any given price point leaps ahead with each new model every few months. (Personally I'd say that the GH1 and 7D are at different price points but I guess it depends on how deep your personal pocket is).

Neither the 7D nor the GH1 represent the end of the road, more like the beginning.

There is no banding/streaking in low light or compression noise with the 7D so this should be better than the GH1. The higher bitrate of the 7D should make a different but the 7D also has some aliasing...

leagues better? Wow I wish I had a lie detector test right now. :) (someone will get that)

he says he isn't getting paid for it. And I always though he leaned toward Sony cams than anything else. And he has tested them both. Sounds like an honest opinion to me.

And I can see this thread has potential to go to a bad place quickly, give it a rest. Go out and shoot something instead of sitting here comparing your camera to the 7D. Enough already.

Early beginning. THe GH1 is at least for me a lot better than my video skills and it helps me to improve.

Here is one strong point for the GH1. THe camera corrects lens distortions for the Panasonic m4/3 lenses. Lines are straight.

I likely have the 7D here this weekend for two days. I will shoot both stills and video.

Well put.

In any case, Philip Bloom said that he really likes the GH1, just not the codec.

And, unless I'm mistaken, he shot his Josuha Tree video for Panasonic, for money, and yet hasn't exhibited a clear bias toward the GH1 or any other Panasonic camera. Lets leave this alone, same as other thread, nobody is getting kick backs.

Our GH1s are great tools to enable our creativity and I for one am really glad that I have one.

I visit this forum for info on the GH1. Haven't bothered to look, but I believe there's now one for the 7D.

All this comparison crap is doing is mucking up a great forum. The mods should start a forum dedicated solely to camera comparisons and bashing so we can get on with the joys of using the GH1 to its full potential.

Agreed.

The original poster asked for a comparison video of the GH1 and 7D side by side.
If someone has a link to such a video, feel free to post it - otherwise there is no reason to engage in any sort of flame war.

Is it possible to return the gh1 to panasonic? Should I hold off for a 7d? Will it be a problem editing the gh1 footage on a mac?

Any help would be appreciated.

>Will it be a problem editing the gh1 footage on a mac?

No. I transcode in Neoscene.

The fact is that if you are making money with video you purchase the GH1 and make the money back by the time the 7D is widely available. If you are just day dreaming about the filmmaking stardom the 7D is going to bring you and your money is tight that's another story.

No side by side comparisons have been done yet to my knowledge. Hold on a few more weeks if you can.

Regardless, both are awesome cameras. Very exciting times for indie filmmakers!!

I thought that video was very impressive - but as much as anything I admired the skill, effort and imagination that went into it, picturing as best I could how they would have actually got each shot.

I guess it's always necessary to avoid the limitations of any camera if you want the best results - people are not going to say "that's odd, there was no such-and-such-type shot in that short", but they would say "heh, that shot shows the limitations of the camera" if you try to cross a bridge too far. Know your device - maybe know your own limitations - play to the strengths of both.

And nobody sees the 95% that ends up on the cutting room floor!
