7D or 5D

So I was trying to find this thread and if one exists please direct me.

But basically I was wondering what people's thoughts were between the 5D and 7D?

I mean before the 7D to me was the clear choice but now that Canon updated the 5D so it shoot 23.98 is it kind of makes sense to me to go for the 5D?

I am wondering because I bought the 7D and am debating selling mine and picking up the 5D.

I don't care too much about the slo-mo which is 720p of the 7D...is there any other reason to stay with the 7D? Or any reason if I were to buy a new camera not to get the 5D other than about the 1k price increase for the 5D?

Would love some feedback please

If you don't care too much about slow mo, I would go for it.

The image on the 5d is better for video. Plus you get full-frame stills and much more control over your photographs.

It is harder to focus, because of the shallower DOF, but I tihnk that tradeoff is worth it.

You're in California...you show go test one out and see how it feels.

Which camera is right for you is subjective, as with all kit. You clearly know the differences between the two cameras, and only you know what you'll be shooting the most. It's whether the 5d or 7d are best suited to that.

For example, I shoot a lot of music content (live gigs, etc) mostly for web, and I like having the option of overcranking. The 7D was the clear choice.

Most video hire companies charge more for a 7d per day than a 5d, despite the 5d's full frame benefits. It seems that more framerate options is considered a lot more valuable than full-frame lowlight performance.

I have shot both on the 5d and 7d

I know both cameras pretty well...I do mostly behind the scenes, music videos, shorts and about to do a feature....

I have a full 7d kit....and bought it when the 7d just came out...its really the whole 5d having 23.98 that makes me say perhaps I should sell and buy the 5d.

I work a lot in hollywood and everyone was shooting 7d...until the 5d came out with the 23.98 and I am seeing a subtle shift...I'm just wondering if I should just switch over to the 5d now...it just would require me buying some more lenses too.....

I have the 7d with a 16 to 35mm L series, the 50mm 1.4, and the sigma 30mm 1.4 all would translate over except the 30mm sigma which I feel I could easily sell....

I would then need to buy a 24 to 70mm canon L series....

its just another 4k....minus whatever I could sell my 7d body for.

To me the 7 is the useable camera because you can monitor well with the 720p output and get less black while doing stuff with the monitor - its quick and reliable

given a big crew mesured focus marks and someone with horns and a radio FF and $10k cine lenses the 5 comes into its own

also the five is good for simple shots using cheap old primes

so..

lo budget - 5d and keep your shots simple

med budget small crew 7d

ultra budget 5d

I like the image the 5D puts out a bit more, and I like working with it a bit more (believe it or not.) Also...it's sexy? 7D is UGLY. :)

These cameras are so cheap so I would go for both a 5D and a 7D if you do any pro work. I have one 5DmkII and two 7D.

I think 7D is the better camera when hooking up monitors and it's a more dens body with more functions and better sealing. Lenses also feels like a 35mm movie camera so my 35/50/85 Zeiss lenses works like a charm with the 7D.

The 5DMKII on the other hand is better in low light, goes wider and feels a bit leaner. As long as I shoot with a Z-finder the 5D is excellent. Since you can set manual audio levels on the 5DmkII I prefer this to do interviews instead of the 7D and DT454 to tame that AGC.

Having two bodys also means you have a backup body should one fail or overheat and it's great to have one camera fully rigged and the other for handheld/should use or to shoot two camera angles at the same time.

It's very hard to say one is better than the other one really.
