7D and 5D lens compatibility

The search function seemed not to be working for me, so I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere. I've never used an SLR for video and am not particularly familiar with how lenses work here. I'd like to get a 7D since it's features are best suited to the work I do now, but would like to get a 5D or it's successor later for other personal projects in the future.

My question is, do the lenses from one camera work interchangeably on the other? I saw on Philip Bloom's site something about a major vignette on account of using some kind of lens with a non-full frame sensor camera (like the 7D), but I don't understand what is actually happening or what to look out for in choosing lenses that will work with both cameras. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The 7d takes EF and EF-S lenses. The 5D takes EF lenses. The sensor on the 7d is smaller than the one on the 5d. The reason EF-S lenses won't work on a full frame sensor, like the one on the 5d, is because the sensor is bigger than the image produced by the lens.

Yes, but keep in mind that the 7d's sensor is smaller than the image produced by EF lenses. This poses no problem per se; it's simply good to know that the sensor will only capture the central portion of the image the lens provides.

Having fun yet?
