77mm threaded ring for Letus 35mm adapter

Hi there,

I'm buying a Letus Extreme for my EX1. It's already got the optimised achromat, which I need for the EX1, but the current ring has a 72mm thread. I know I need a 77mm thread for the EX1 but do I need a: '77mm thread ring specifically designed for the Sony PMW-EX1 XDCAM' from Letus Direct or can i find some cheap 72mm to 77mm thread converter on ebay? (quick search yielded no results). Letus want to charge me US$100 for a ring and i'm trying to avoid it.

Cheers!

Man, with those 35 mm adapter every 0.001 mm counts, if you wanna get a sharp picture! Never compromise - get original Letus parts for the Letus adapter.

I've had problems with sharpness when I mounted my Letus Elite with the double-threaded Tiffen T1 filter on the EX1 lens...

Ordinarily this 77-72mm step down ring wouldn't make a difference, but with the optimized acrhomat needed to accomdate the known issues on the EX1 lens with adapters you only have two choices to have the optimized achromat the exact correct distance:

a) buy a cheap step down ring and test it. Ordering it and testing it will cost you a couple weeks of time. If it doesn't work you'll have wasted another $20 and several weeks as you then order the Letus ring. Maybe longer if the cheap ring is close, but not exact enough. :crybaby:

b) go straight for the Letus ring and you'll have spent an extra $80.

Then ask yourself if $80 is worth those extra weeks of frustration and effort. :cheesy:

On a side note has anyone posted about, or tried, using a Brevis with the Letus optimized achromat?
