720x480 in the Properties: how come?

Hi all,

I'm editing my first video ever and I noticed in that the project properties show 720x480. Is that normal? Since I shot in 1920x1080 with a 550d and then using Mpeg Streamclip I converted with Avid DNxHD codec leaving the frame size of 1920x1080 unscaled, why is it showing this frame size in the properties?

Sorry for the noob questions and thanks for your advice

The project properties are independent of the media you import to the project. If you set your project to 720x480, then that's what the edited video will be (ignoring rendering settings) regardless of the clips your cutting from being HD. If you want your final video to be HD, you need to change the project properties to reflect that.

I believe the Vegas default project is a 720x480, but you should be able to change that somewhere if you want - check the options settings.

Thank you for your reply,
Yes, I thought Vegas would somehow adapt to the original file settings, but then I noticed it said "template", and I selected HD 1080-24p (1920x1080, 23.976 fps)
I left 8 bit though, didn't select 32 bit, since I don't really know the difference...

The best thing to do is match it. Go to project properties..and click on the yellow folder button. Just pick your clip and vegas will match it correctly most of the time. sometimes you need tell it to make it progressive or not..fyi

2.35:1, in it's proper form hasn't been used for sometime(atleast since 1970 i think), but is widely accepted as the "term" for Cinemascope aspect ratio. what you're really going for is 2.39:1 ...the only reason i mention this is purely mathematical. so if you're manually cropping your video, you have the precise aspect ratio for proper film-out. if indeed that's where it's going. if it's just for web and what not, do whatever!

EDIT:...here's the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.35:1
