720pn recommendations please

OK,

Again I am an HVX newbie here, and want to focus on the 720pn format for a second. I am shooting a lot of action footage, windsurfing, kiteboarding, etc. so want to take advantage of the variable frame rates, thus the choice for 720pn. I would like some input on what format to base the project in and assume that it depends on the final output.

So...is this statement true?
It is my understanding that 720/30pn in a good format to use if final output is DVD/Broadcast based, and that 720/24pn is good if final output is to film.

If so, most of my shooting is intended for DVD/Broadcast so...720/30pn is it....right?

Thanks

I am fairly new to this to. But I think that the different frame rates are just for a look you want to give the footage. Not that it limits you to where you can output it to. DVD/FILM....

24pn is just to give you film look and 30pn will give you video look..
you can make DVDs with both the frate rates( there are 24p DVDs)..
so shoot whatever look you want to have,..

I would recommend 30pn for action footage. 24p requires controlled (slower) panning
and camera movement to avoid judder in the image. 30pn handles it quite well, and is still progressive, so looks a lot more like film than interlaced.

30p is always easier to deal with when going to broadcast and I have had friends who have been hurt on their broadcast deliverables because of shooting 24. The PN aspect is just that you are shooting the native frames. Not based upon 60.. so you get a lot longer record time. The only time to really shooot 30p is if you need to record the audio. You can always turn it to the slow motion also when shooting 60 in cinematools

I have read this in other threads...and experienced it already. It seems like from your input, and that of others, that I will base my projects in 720/30pn. I absolutely LOVE the slow motion the HVX puts out. I shoot a lot of surfing/kite/wind surfing and the footage is amazing.

Thanks again!

What do you mean by this? I thought the only time you don't record audio is when under/over cranking?
Are there other frame rates/record modes when you won't get audio?
